It’s generally true. The rare exception is just better at deception. If you’ve ever been through divorce, you realize that even after many years you still didn’t know them. I’ve seen it in even marriages I admired. Don’t say I gave up…I didn’t. I grew up in a religious family and with parents who’ve now been married for 53 years and a brother who’s been married 25. I’ve had 5 divorces, in which every one of them cheated on me, then took everything I had. I’m married now and love her and refuse to get divorced…but in 5 years Ive lost everything I had when I met her. I had earned $8-12k a month, had no debt, $50k in savings, a house, car, etc. Now, I am bankrupt after $200k debt accumulated in 5 years, no house, no car, no cellphone in the US, living in Colombia with her family (I’m still paying all the bills) just to survive. I earn VA disability and this month exceeded that in spending by $2k. Now I have to go back home to stay with my parents in AZ at 51 and try again to find a job after losing a job in Florida and applying to 10-20 places a day for 6 months. Hopefully, AZ/Las Vegas will be different. Hopefully, she’ll join me in the US. Hopefully, she loves me like she says she does. She won’t work a job more than 6 months, because she has to visit her family 2-3 times a year for a 1-2 months and misses home. Basic living expenses here are $2-2,500 a month in a nice neighborhood, yet we spend $4-5k the first two weeks of each month…family “emergencies”, “mental health treatments”, or kids needs (not even our kids). But hey, I made a commitment like every other marriage and I honor my commitments. God will approve of my dedication, even if family friends disapprove and think I am meant to die alone and not meant to enjoy the “wonderful” marriage they have. They are better than me because THEY have never been divorced. Just treated poorly and stayed. Well, I’m staying, and she’s staying…so here we are. When the money runs out, she runs out or a my health gives out, I’ll make my exit. But it won’t be divorce.

I opened up to a girl about my life at some point earlier this year. We only ever knew each other on a video game we both played over the years.
