R2 was on Anakins star fighter,Buzzdroids destroyed Obi-wans astrodroid. Padme gave R2 to Anakin in the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars shorts that connect episode 2 to episode 3. Then Disney being butthurt that their CGI show SUCKED ASS decided to make his Clone Wars not canon.

It's almost as if the writers of the original didn't anticipate studios milking the shit out of star wars for the next half a century.

There were only 3 Star Wars movies.

Did Obi-Wan really ever "own" R2?

Astromech droids were in every X-wing and used throughout the Rebel fleet. Obi-wan didn’t necessarily own R2. He was just another droid doing its job to him.

He may have worked with R2 but didn’t own it. Remember what he said in Empire Strikes Back? The truth depends on your point of view😎

Obi-wan never owned R2. R2 belonged to Padme, she gave R2 to Anakin and he and Obi-Wan shared R2 as needed, otherwise Obi used R2's that belonged to the Jedi Order. Even if you erase Clone Wars R2 never belonged to Obi, only to Padme and later her daughter Leia

Because it not the highly integrated and cohesive narrative fans think it is. In the first film Vader was only a lackey, the governor ordered him around like a servant. It was only later when he proved popular they they rewrote it to make him the central figure.

Many inconsistencies between the original and the prequels.

No? R2 never belonged to Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan usually had some other Astromech droid on his ships. R2 usually hung around C-3PO and Anakin. While Obi-Wan KNEW him he never OWNED him. So no that was not an error.

It’s called… shitty writing. I am no fan of the prequels. The Threepio shit too?! Get out of here.

He had R4–P17, which was destroyed by buzz droids, then he had R5-G9 for his trip to Utapau.

Well nobody remembers Kenobi having a teppanyaki grill but it’s there. Your eyes can deceive you. Don’t trust them.

R2 units are like cats, you never really "own" them.

This is the original so it’s the other director dropped the ball when filming new movies and not doing there homework and watch the original to see how to write and carry the story line

The entire Disney show Obi Won would disagree, about him not being called that "since before you were born". Several people called him that....

Well he didn't own R2 but borrowed him from Anakin. Well dodged about having to tell the kid about his father, that one.

The canon-friendly answer is he legitimately forgot, the likely answer is George was winging it and didn't think about whether R2 would appear in a prequel series
