WOW. History Dr. Timothy Snyder just completely debunked and embarrassed Marjorie Taylor Greene after she kept pushing the narrative of Nazis in Ukraine. “On the question of Nazis, I’ve written two books as a historian about Nazis and the holocaust. On the question of Ukrainian nationalism, I am the...

MTG is the Sheila Jackson Lee of the Republican Party. There is nothing to see here. Move along. Since her district boundary is literally 5 miles from my farm, I know of what I speak.

Both sides have some pretty extreme people. MTG takes the cake though.

MTG is certainly an embarrassment to my home state of Georgia, but apparently she’s what the voters in her district want, a performative politician who only obstructs & never does anything to benefit her constituents.

She’s a total Russian asset. A complete propagandist and conspiracist. Traitor to democracy.

While the Azov Battalion has been brought up time and again, it is worth noting it is NOT part of the Ukrainian government and is a relatively small group (estimates range from 900 to about 2000 soldiers). Putin lied about the need for a “de-nazification” campaign in Ukraine to justify his invasion and unfortunately people like MTG are eager dupes.

I love this guy’s scholarship on this topic. She wouldn’t know what scholar is if her life depended on it.

So Ed, are you pretending you've never heard of the Azov brigade. Made up of known Nazis?

I've also heard of Nazis in the US. It doesn't make the country or the government Nazis though.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Prof. John Mearsheimer: ‘Ukraine’s long-range drone attacks into Russia have BACKFIRED, Russia retaliated by closing the Odessa Port and turned Ukraine into a land-locked country.’ ‘The Ukrainian drones have been Ukraine’s great saviour on the battlefield. I believe that this war would have ended a year or two if the Ukrainians didn’t have drones because the Ukrainians have a significant shortage of manpower, a significant shortage of artillery. And in a war that was heavily dependent on just manpower and artillery, I think the Ukrainians would have collapsed a while ago. But the drones have really helped keep them in the fight in an important way. So that’s one dimension to the drone issue. Then there’s the whole question of using drones in long-range attacks into Mother Russia. And this of course is what the Ukrainians have been doing big time in recent months. And I don’t think that those attacks have had any meaningful impact on the course of the war. And of course as you were alluding to, if anything it speeded up the end of the war because there is good reason to think that the Russian response to these long-range drone attacks by the Ukrainians is that the Russians have decided to retaliate by attacking Odessa and other Ukrainian sites on the Black Sea. And this has had a devastating effect on Ukraine because so much of Ukraine’s agricultural product as well as its industrial product moves out of Ukraine via the Black Sea ports. And of course the most prominent one is Odessa. But what’s happened here, and it’s very important to emphasise this, is that the Russians have basically closed the Odessa ports. And the end result is that today Ukraine is effectively a landlocked country. And given the percentage of exports, Ukrainian exports that go out of those ports through the Black Sea, this is going to have devastating effects on the Ukrainian economy. So if anything the long-range drone attack on the part of the Ukrainians against Mother Russia are backfiring.’ Watch the full interview in the quoted post below 👇

Historian, academic and author Tarik Cyril Amar on Nationalism, Nazi Imagery, and Ethnic Cleansing Apologia in Early 2000s Lviv Tarik lived in Lviv from 2001 on & off for five years. He speaks fluent Russian and Ukrainian, and is an eyewitness expert who should be highlighted on major platforms to correct the wrong records of most media on Ukraine and the Western proxy war against Russia. “Even then, Lviv had a reputation as being a particularly patriotic, even nationalist, city. My personal experience at the time was that that was true, and that this tendency was on the rise. You had demonstrations celebrating the OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists in WW2). You found it in policies of public commemoration. Lviv has one of the largest monuments to Stepan Bandera in Ukraine, built or inaugurated during my time there. There was already a very consistent denial of the crimes of Ukrainian nationalists in WW2, the enormous massacres that they conducted systematically against the Poles. Nazi symbols in Lviv “You had the symbolism of the Waffen-SS division that the Nazis established in 1943. Lviv was the epicentre of that operation. Their symbolism, their coat of arms, that was there in the public space. You had the black and red of the OUN, that was prominent... From what I can see now, it must have become much more aggressive. At the same time, there has been some resistance against forced mobilization in Lviv. On one side, there is this escalation of very strong nationalism that was already there. On the other, clearly the impact of the war is that some people are beginning to resist mobilization, even there.”

I spoke with Prof. Arora (Pooja Arora) about how the postwar norm against aggressive war drove decades of declining violence—and how today’s “might makes right” politics, embraced by leaders like Putin and Trump, now threaten that hard-won peace. Me: The norm that countries do not go to war except in self-defense and with authorization of the UN Security Council has been rejected both by Putin and Trump. Of course, there were often violations of that in the past, including the United States invading Iraq, for example. So it’s not as if that norm was always followed. But still, it was a change from hundreds—maybe thousands—of years of history, and that norm, I think, does deserve credit for the decline of interstate and great-power war since World War II. In my books The Better Angels of Our Nature and Enlightenment Now, I’ve plotted the rate of battle deaths since 1946. I don’t know if my image is reversed or not—whether it goes left to right from your point of view—but it goes down. It has ups and downs, and in the last couple of years, because of the wars you pointed to—Ukraine, Gaza, and even more so East Africa, in Sudan and Ethiopia—there has been an uptick. Still, that uptick has not wiped out all the progress we’ve made. We are still at a more peaceful time than in the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s. We’re back to around the late 1990s level. But it has gotten somewhat worse, and it could get worse still if that norm is permanently shattered. It is certainly being threatened. We don’t know whether it will reassert itself—given that Ukraine has been very costly to Russia, and given that Donald Trump says a lot of things he doesn’t do. I still think it’s unlikely the United States will apply military force in Greenland. But there’s no question the norm is being threatened, and I do think it’s a serious risk to world peace. Pooja Arora: It just appears that realism is back with a bang, and that “might makes right” may win. Me: Well, it is back, certainly. And the Trump administration is very explicit about that. They have basically said “might is right.” The question is, will that prevail? It might. On the other hand, there were good reasons to have the liberal international order—namely, that it prevented war. And wars, as the bumper sticker from my childhood said, are not healthy for children or other living things. There are huge disadvantages to war. Countries get tired of them. People revolt against governments that engage in them. We’re seeing that in Iran right now. One grievance is that the ayatollahs have wasted national resources on proxy wars across the Middle East at the expense of their people. There could very well be a backlash in the United States if it gets involved in wars and American soldiers start losing their lives. So yes, there is a definite movement toward what’s called realism. I think it’s a bad term, because I don’t think it’s particularly realistic. It’s actually quite realistic to believe that avoiding stupid wars is a much better path to prosperity and well-being. Still, cynical, zero-sum competition is being embraced by major world leaders. The question is whether the disadvantages will ultimately bring the liberal international order back. The European Union is still committed to it, as is much of the rest of the world, East Asia. So it’s not dead—but it is certainly threatened.

In the last couple of weeks, there has been a lot of talk about who is and who should be in charge of the “Unified Command” that looks after the law and order as well as security in the state of Manipur. This issue is being raised 16 months after the crisis began in May 2023! But barely a week after Mr Kuldiep Singh was appointed in May, 2023 as the Chairman of the Unified Headquarters/Command, I had flagged off the issue of Article 355 to Karan Thapar. I had told him about the subversion of the federal structure by the Modi led Govt. of India through a de facto and illegal act of exercising power over the state government. And that this subversion has rendered Shri Biren’s government as a “proxy government” and “a façade”. Not only that, I have also hinted about the “game” of keeping “Biren as the enemy” to help perpetuate the conflict and that if he were to be removed, that “game (would be) gone” as well! That the violent crisis which should have been brought under control in a couple of weeks has not happened so far points to that “game”. Since this interview (9 June, 2023), I have consistently raised this issue on many occasions, by asking “who’s in charge of the law and order” in Manipur, and reminding that the Govt of Manipur is a “proxy” for the Govt of India. And that Shri Biren is a “willing scapegoat”, someone who has protected and shielded Modi-Shah from any criticism or responsibility pertaining to this terrible tragedy in Manipur. In fact, he has defended the duo openly and unabashedly in many instances! Fact is, as I have insisted throughout the crisis so far, the “inaction of the GoI” itself is an “action” that has aggravated and prolonged the crisis, and therefore it must take the major responsibility.

**Kononovich Brothers held for execution without trial by Zelensky regime.** Mikhail Kononovich, is the leader of the youth wing of the now banned Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU). He and his brother, Aleksander Kononovich, were arrested by Ukrainian authorities in Kiev in March of 2022. Mikhail is the Communist youth group’s first secretary, and Aleksander is a leading activist in the organization; both are Ukrainian citizens. The Ukrainian Communist party was the second largest party by electoral poll results at the last Ukrainian election - the same rigged election that brought billionaire Kolomoisky’s puppet Zelensky to power - on an agenda for Peace with Russia, no less! Mikhail and Aleksander Kononovich are brothers who together were among the leaders of the popular Ukrainian Communist youth movement. Contrary to the US narrative, Ukraine has a proud Soviet and Socialist history, and the Banderite fascist Junta that they installed in the 2014 coup is a despised minority, forced to go underground by the victorious Soviet people after the defeat of fascism by the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War - WW2 to you and me. In addition to imposing martial law, forced conscription, decimating public services and halving the population of the country, Zelensky’s NATO puppet junta have suspended all democracy and outlawed the opposition - singling the communists out for especially heavy repression, ever since 2014. Mikhail and Aleksander Kononovic have been placed under house arrest in Kiev - although they have committed no crime, other than opposition to the genocidal war and the destruction of their country to serve US imperial interests. They have now been warned of their impending execution by the police who are holding them prisoner - in direct orders from the Ukrainian fascists, with the connivance of the NATO POWERS. The two brothers call on all leftists and anti-fascists of the world to protest local Ukrainian embassies to further spread the message of their unlawful arrests. If ever there was a reason to protest to your governments, and their representatives and spokesmen, it is now.
