Writing code was never the whole job of a software engineer 🙂

It's not here yet though. 100k lines of Ai spaghetti code can be written by a good programmer in 10k lines which is sustainable code that is verifiably secure. With Ai you get immediate boiler plate non tailored code - ok, however, it's built on sand not solid foundations. The security risks and tech debt of having to read through a massive code base only accumulates with your use of it and project ambitions it grows unwieldy. If your Ai can't solve/fix a bug then you got a 500k line code base you've added on to instead of a 50k code base that is understood by the programmer on a more hard learned expert level. Vs a mountain of reading mystery code. So backend the Ai code can be seen slower to deal with overtime.

You can fancy talk all you want, but you’re still gonna need a third of the people you did before it’s going to crater.

We used to have Systems Analysts and Programmers. They were two different jobs.

Well, at this rate, AI after 20 years of development will be wastly “wastly” superior to any senior engineer with 20 years of experience. Whatever they were meant to do is replaceable with AI. And it doesn’t make them any less respected, and there are ways they can still thrive.

@grok Create a prompt for generating a Markdown file that can be fed to claude code to ensure all the main points are met.

yeah right… the thinking : we need to implement an API to handle the authentication the job itself : handle cors code, handle headers code, handle routes, handle security implementation like rate limiting, handle connection to db, handle cookies, handle proxy…

What part of the job do you think most engineers still underestimate even after years in?

He's got a point. The code writing was always the slow part. Enjoyable and challenging for programmers, but quite often slow to get things working. Why wouldn't companies be interested in any way to produce working code quicker?
Had me up till the end. This is the opinion of someone that has learned so much about programming that he forgot more than most will ever know. I applaud him for what he's achieved. But he's go no idea what he's talking about if he thinks anyone can just hop into higher level systems architecture decisions.

Should I be excited that this is true Or should I be depressed and worried that this is being presented as some profound insight. Lastly- Systems Thinking is a core part of Engineering. And Engineering is NOT JUST SOFTWARE. Be it a bridge, software or rocket…

Bro ai has been out since 2021. Jesus these old guys with no skills are annoying

Systems thinking is the human in the loop and it’s not going to anywhere

Fact check true. I have been designing and implementing systems since before the Linux epoch. Doing that at this very minute.

Apply for a software engineering job and you know nothing about writing code. Good luck passing technical interviews

Doesn’t he mean software architects? Yes they were important and still are. But AI is also very good or even better architect

Ai enables everyone to become a Software Engineer, the lawyer, the accountant, the Project Manager, etc. You will be compensated based on your domain knowledge and your ability to translate that knowledge into an agent or software.

Thats why the only stack is flask htmx bootstrap frontend and fastapi beanie backend.

true...

@grok who is speaking in the video

This

Nicely put, let’s see how long does it take the AI / AGI to catchup on the imagination and ideation part of our contribution

Ai can build it all very fast, they just don't have imagination to build the beauty imo 🧐

Then why d fk there is leetcodes questions everywhere in interview rounds?

@grok Who is this?
