Ngl, if I shoot someone out of self defense, I’ll call 911 to get an ambulance to the scene so they can try to save their life. My shot will be to wound or immobilize, not to kill.

Officer: Basically our judicial system is corrupt and even thought you acted in self defense and are completely innocent, there's a chance you'll end up in prison for life if you say the wrong thing on the phone.

Good advice. However, if police arrive at a shooting a you, as the shooter, say NOTHING, you will likely end up in jail. Having been a police officer for over 30 years, I would advise that you tell the responding officers, “I believed my life (or someone else’s) was in danger, therefore I used my firearm in self-defense. I would now like to speak to an attorney.” Or something to that effect. Don’t say anything that could be misconstrued or twisted by lawyers. Hopefully you will have some witnesses (who don’t enjoy the same 5th Amendment protections) who can give context and back your story.

Why would you call 911 Don’t call 911 Have someone else call 911 If you’re calm the prosecutor will say he’s a psychopath he was too calm If your amped up the prosecutor will say he’s was on meth or some other drug Do not call. Do not talk to police This is your friendly 20 year lawyer reminding you to shut the fuck up

I’m gonna drop a Bomb here Did you know dialing 9-1-1 on your keypad before even hitting call. The conversation is recorded? Now you know.

He’s just saying just provide the pertinent information when you call 911. There’s been a shooting, so send an ambulance. However, when the police arrive then you obviously can go into more detail. In other words, don’t let a DA try to use the 911 call against you.

The spouse and I have had this conversation. Have it multiple times jic there happens to be a shooting. If you have your ccw and your instructor didn’t bring this up, you went to the wrong place.

To sum up this video, do not give details over the phone or to police without a lawyer present. Give limited basic information, as everything you say can and will be twisted against you in a court of law. ALWAYS. True story: A man caused a fight to happen between two girls that led to a shooting by one of the girls. Nobody wanted to admit who did it. He apologized over the phone to the girls for causing them to fight. That phone call was the evidence prosecutors used to prove he committed the shooting. An apology, with no mention of a shooting, made over the phone. That’s how easy it is for you to end up in prison over something so simple, and innocent.

As a cop the first thing you do once you do shoot someone is "I need to go to the hospital", you don't say shit about the shooting to anyone and you use the time in the hospital to get your facts straight and call your respective legal advisors. Everyone should do this.

Don't even say shooting. Just say there's been an incident.

Well here is the problem with the "I'm not armed" part. If you shoot an intruder, then disarm yourself while waiting on the police and standing outside... Who is to say that this intruder's buddy is not ready to retaliate and shoot you while you are standing out there? My choice would be to say, when I see police arrive, I will put the firearm away and come out unarmed. not I will be a sitting target until you get here and you might find me dead on the lawn.

you call the dispatcher, tell them there is a home invasion in progress, drop back to a room and wait for the cops to arrive. You don't go hunting for bad guys afterward or Joe Bagadonuts might fusilade you.

I wouldn’t. Terrible take. If you say nothing to police, and they find your gun that you used. Regardless if self defense or not, you’re being arrested while they figure out what happened in more detail

Alternatively you can bury the body in the back yard and pretend nothing happened. 😏

Great way to torpedo your self defense case. A reasonable, law abiding person forced to shoot an assailant in self defense should get police and medical to the scene as soon as it is safe to make the call.

There’s no legal allegation to report crime, and shooting somebody in self defense isn’t a crime. Is there any requirement to even call?

When I was involved in an incident no gun involvement but I called them told them what happened, they told me to stay there, was anyone else present, they told me not to worry, that it would be many officers, which it was, they did check me for weapons then rushed me and my son to hospital, no issue. I don't know if his advise is good lol I mean, what will you say when they ask why you didn't call the cops?! Lol I don't think "I saw a video about it nine months ago" will help lol
