X2 (2003) opens with Nightcrawler’s White House attack, a jaw-dropping sequence that sets the tone for arguably the best X-Men film of the original trilogy.

can't believe they peaked the x-men franchise in the first scene fun fact: alan cumming did most of his own stunt work in that sequence

I genuinely can’t think of another scene in the series (pre or post retcon) that displays any mutant’s power in such a cool way. This scene set the tone for the entire movie and a new standard for the series. Which is why it’s so puzzling that they never brought Nightcrawler back

when your cold open is so good the rest of the movie has to play catch-up why did later x-men films struggle to capture this energy?

They had a real opportunity to do something with Nightcrawler and Storm as a stand alone movie… too bad.

I love it and as a classical music lover too I was delighted with the use of the Dies Irae from Mozart's Requiem. But when they began to change the composition in such a horrible way I was completely out of the scene. Until today I feel the same when I see it. Why altered it?

Saw this in theaters & let me tell you seeing this movie from one, was a god-damned EXPERIENCE. (It was amazing & I was filling in a friend on x-men lore when it got to the Mystique & Nightcrawler scene, later on.) :)

Heh, the scene is amazing but I'd argue that's the problem : it's the best scene of the film and nothing after that reach this high again.

This was the best scene in any X Men film IMO.

The counterpoint of this scene with "Dies Irae" from Mozart's Requiem was a moment of brilliance as it sets up Kurt for later scenes where he is found in a church and we explore his Christian faith.
