On a technical level, most likely for the foreseable future there will be an intermediary in the middle. Nuetral assets like crypto could exchange between CBDCs for conversion. Stablecoins need a bridge. Many don't realize XRP is that bridge—regardless of currency. It facilitates cross-currency settlement. No USD-pegged stablecoin can do that. Nothing aside from XLM & XRP can do it! Stablecoins are not "bridge" tokens! Please Share!
