Up the intensity with a condition that once an attempt on goal is made, the move is over and the next pair go. The beauty of this practice is that it works with varying numbers, while the quick turnover means players get enough of a break to regather themselves and take on some coaching points. #SundayShare #SundayShare

Without a doubt, most ball-dominant kids aren’t great finishers. The reason is they really don’t get that many reps in practice and when they train on their own they tend to shoot on the run or time and room shots. It’s boring and not even useful to practice finishing without a goalie. And even if you have a goalie, finishing on a 6x6 net with a goalie is just too easy. If you want to be a big-time finisher, you can practice in your backyard “Shooting on dad!” We started doing this during the COVID lockdown with my family and not only was it a blast, my kids all got better at finishing. Your dad will definitely be harder to finish on than any goalie in a 6x6 net! Use a 3’6’’ x 3’6’’ JM3 net. This goal size is perfect because it’s a little smaller than a box net, which is designed for the goalie to have goalie pads. Your dad will love it and I guarantee you’ll get way better at finishing fast!

Ajax training this week featured this Combination Passing Practice: Up Back Through Variation Practice Description This technical combination practice is designed to develop passing quality, positional awareness, timing of movement and communication. The outside players will always complete two passes around the outside before transferring the ball through the central area (Adapt as it progresses). As the ball enters the middle, the two central players combine using an up back through pattern. Both central players must continually assess the movement of the ball, adjust their positioning and prepare early to receive. Play is limited to one or two touches to encourage efficient ball circulation. Following the central combination, the player who sets the ball rotates into the outside position. The player who initially passes into the central area moves inside to continue the sequence. Coaching Points • Maintain concentration throughout the practice • Scan regularly and adjust position as the ball travels • Communicate early and clearly • Create appropriate angles and distances of support • Receive with an open body position where possible • Play firm, accurate passes with the correct weight • Set the ball into the path of the supporting player • Time movements to maintain the rhythm of the sequence • Rotate positions quickly and efficiently • Maintain technical quality while working at a high tempo Save this post and follow us for more.
