If there's a major power war, it's very much going to be a drone war. It's going to be drones and AI. I do worry about the existential risk of AI, which is that if you employ AI and drones, do you go down this path where eventually you get to Terminator? We should try to avoid that and minimize the Terminator risk. [But] when you're making military drones, you are making Terminators. [In fact] I think you'll somewhat be forced into giving the drone localized AI, because if the AI is far away, it can't control as well as a localized AI. At World Computer Day in Davos, Dr. Tricia Wang made a point that's hard to argue with: "That proof does not come from a company or a contract. It has to be cryptographically tamper-proof." The tech already exists. The conversation is just catching up.

.Naval on regulating AI and the free access of mathematics: Almost all the innovation of the last 50 years has come in the unregulated industries. If you go to the regulated industries like healthcare, it’s a nightmare because there’s just too many bureaucrats who are there saying no, and you can’t actually do anything interesting. … People who are trying to regulate AI out of this doomsday fear from having watched the Terminator movies one too many times, they’re regulating the free exercise of mathematics. This is completely innumerate people, which is the modern version of illiteracy, who literally do not know how anything works. They don’t know how the computer works. They don’t understand mathematics. They’re scared of it. These are the same kids who were scared of math in high school. They’re now writing regulations to prevent other kids from doing math that are actually going to make the human race better off. If you limit computers and computation, you have literally removed the last source of innovation that we have in our society. You’re freezing us in place.
