Y'all are still copy pasting into chatGPT? Cute I will convert every single programmer on my TL to cursor. Chat any file, any function, or any documentation with an @ mention

I installed Cursor yesterday and it has changed my world

That was my reaction too!!

Do you have a step by step thread for getting started with cursor? Been learning Python with code interpreter and using vscode. Cursor sounds awesome and would love to get started.

Its a fork of VScode! Easy to swap! 4 flows -type something then cmd+enter to autocomplete -highlight something then cmd+k, type a prompt to edit -cmd+L to open chat. then cmd+enter to search entire codebase( it will ask you to index). Use @ in chat to reference things -File > New Ai project to create a starter template

They need to fix loading projects from WSL :(

WSL?

Windows subsystem for linux.

Any way to teach it new documentation? Example a components library for React?

There’s a + button to add more docs, haven’t tried it yet Or lazy way, just import the lib as a git submodule, or as an extra folder in the vscode workspace, that way chat with codebase can index and read it

Cursor is the future.

looking forward for architect-gpt there's spicy data (design patterns, everything patterns) waiting to be fed to a hungry model that would make the best software architect companion could suggest many opensource solutions for each use case

Does it have knowledge about @langchain ?

Wanna get even lazier? tell Cursor to "wrap in bash heredoc", and you can implement code with the 'Run In Terminal' button. You can even specify a directory with the with an '@' reference.

This is so clever! I love it

This tweet made me change my default IDE from VSCode to Cursor 🤯🤯🤯

Yessss 1 more dev converted

Dope af

@chillgates_ Copy paste still seems quicker bro

I’m considering getting it though I’m not sure how valuable it is compared to Copilot X + Chat? Seems to have some additional UI improvement (accept/deny changes) and the ability to embed and then query the codebase?

Basically UI improvements are huge. Seem small but makes a big difference Cross codebase chat is awesome. Also lets you chat with documentation, and @ mention specific files or code blocks. Which GitHub copilot chat doesn’t have. If you want, you can combine with copilot

Cursor is literally a God send

I tried it for a few minutes in the short demo file they provide (the TicTacToe one) and all of the generations I tried were very bad — the generations did not fit the spec I requested, functions were left unimplemented, and bits of the code were just wrong. Copying the same prompts into ChatGPT worked far better, so I’m not sure if the issue is the way they’re reformulating the prompts, but I was unimpressed. The chatting with files seems cool though, and I assume it’ll get better, so maybe I’ll give it another shot.

@thelarrybarker

It is amazing, i started using it already and productivity is extraordinary!

Why is it a fork of VSCode and not an extension?

You might want to start by sharing a link to cursor because that’s a horribly Google unfriendly app name.

Any that used it can share info about the cost?

just memorize 35 new chords and wait for a slow api !

what does that mean exactly it's a "fork of VSCode"? Newbie here 😅

its so good

Why create a fork when you do it with a plugin?

Downloaded it and started playing around with it. Any YouTube video on this I can check out ?

Loving it so far. But still using Claude2-100k on the side, to be honest. Probably a skill issue

Converted and then never looked back

Do you need to disable the GitHub Copilot extension for it to not interfere with the shortcuts?

Nope. It works alongside, you can combo!

did anyone else like the background chant ?

how much $ usage have you had since using Cursor fully? (it uses your own api key right, last i checked)

like chatting with code. interesting

@readwise save

Is this a vscode plugin?? I need to konw! 😢

@godmarco_eth Its a fork of VScode

Godbless! Thank you for this link
