Residents of Magale Sub-county, Namisindwa District, welcomed us by peacefully blocking the road outside St. John’s College Magale, demanding answers over the continued collection of school fees at this government-supported institution. The school receives over UGX 360 million annually from the Government of Uganda to support management, administrative costs, and staff wages. Despite this support, the school has been charging UGX 210,000 per term for day scholars and UGX 540,000 per term for boarding students, contrary to the President’s directive that government schools should not charge tuition fees. During our visit, the headmaster and several key administrators were nowhere to be found. Following consultations with local leaders, parents, and other stakeholders, we resolved that day scholars should not be charged school fees. Boarding students may only be required to pay a reasonable amount to cover meals and other legitimate boarding-related expenses. Let us uphold the Government’s policy of free education, protect parents from unlawful charges, and ensure every child has access to quality education regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. Banning books is a SLIPPERY SLOPE. The King James Bible has been removed from ALL elementary and middle school libraries throughout the Davis School District in Utah after someone challenged its contents. The school district decided to ban the bible after they found that it has "elements of vulgarity and violence not suitable to younger students." A broad new law in Utah prohibits schools from having "pornographic or indecent material". So I want to hear your opinions. Should the bible be banned? If not, then why shouldn't it? Here are my thoughts. Books in school libraries should be segmented by age- appropriateness, if they are not already. Laws should be written to narrowly focus on really bad content, not in the broad way they currently are. Broad laws leave teachers and librarians in a position that makes them fear the laws and overreact rather than uphold the laws in a genuine manner. Should a 7 year-old be reading 'Gender Queer'? Of course not? But should a 7-Year-old also be reading the vulgar sections of the bible? No. There are happy-mediums to this problem and it doesn't involve painting all people, who think certain books should be accessible to older students, as "groomers," just like those who think the bible should be accessible to kids shouldn't be called "groomers" either.

The school was still recovering from the pandemic and needed $80K or they would be forced to close down by the end of the month. After watching the video, he was immediately moved and got in contact with the school, and donated enough funds to help them stay open, and said it was “the right thing to do.”
