Ayin knows that what he is doing is wrong from the start, while only justifing them towards the project itself, not offering any towards himself. While yes, he did mistreat Angela, saying he is like Carmen is pretty insane. Especially post-light

Ayin is my favourite pm character.

Ayin is the literal definition of an "Ends justify the means" protagonist, and also the type of character that would pull the lever of the trolley to sacrifice his loved ones for the masses. Kinda expect Dante to be the opposite in the end, since angela/carmen are their own types

I do always find it funny how people bring up the death toll of like Pianist for example, to show how much worse Carmen is But they seem to forget the thing called the Smoke War that Ayin and Benjamin were directly responsible for

The Pianist Incident only ended with massacre and more awareness of Distortions. Smoke War however rid the City of Old L. Corp smoke and become a necessary step for curing humanity.

Was it necessary? You do realize the Ayin didn't do it because of the smoke right? He did it so that he can hope to rise as a new wing if L Corp and a new Energy source for the City Also, I guess those that died in the war weren't worth the effort to cure true

Like I understand, "ends justify the means" But that aspect would also apply to Carmen turning everyone into distortions because then everyone would still be free from the City's clutches. Way more fucked up than the alternative but still a "good outcome"

Equating the two makes no sense. Ayin orchestrated a war to give humanity the strength to stand on its own two feet. Carmen's is just everyone having a collective mental breakdown and turning into feral beasts. Succumbing to despair isn't freedom.
