Was that a good landing or a terrible landing?

I was on a 737 on final into ATL a few years ago with 25-30 mph crosswinds. The pilot crabbed it in so smoothly, and the only reason I knew was because I looked out my window over the wing and was looking straight down the runway lol. Flawless landing 👍

That’s not what the passengers were yelling. 🤣

Many years ago a friend of mine got hired for a commuter service trying to build hours. He was flying Short-330s at the time, and I forget which airport it happened at, but he was PIC for the flight. Horrible crosswinds, and they’re apparently like flying a shoebox. He’s wrestling with getting it down, they get a big downdraft and BAM! Bounced once, he got it down. Apparently it hit so hard, the overhead bins all popped open and some old man’s dentures came out. He was so embarrassed he made the copilot do the passenger greeting for deplaning.

My wish when I fly is to have a pilot of your caliber.

How stressful is a landing like this, genuinely?

It just takes some reflexes and concentration. It’s actually fun.

Was that crosswinds or just really bad flying?

I typically applaud the pilot after landings like that.

Why are the big boys taught to crab in a crosswind until just before touchdown and we little boys are taught to line up on centerline with a slip?

I would probably never fly again after that landing.

They don’t call it WIZZ for nothing! (That’s what I would have been doing if I had been onboard!)

You are cleared to land, cross winds from the west at 27, I mean cross winds from the east at 24 knot, cross wind is from the west at 32. . . . . . screw it you are on your own

Why would this scare anyone? I, for one, would pay extra for the promise of some roller coaster turbulence.

I’m the idiot passenger who would pay triple for an intoxicating landing such as this, Buzz. My dream as a little Presbyterian missionary kid in Brazil in the 60s was to be a pilot, but dang it, 20/400 vision ruined that dream, and I had to go to medical school, instead.
