Tiago Forte has pioneered the concept of a Second Brain. As the author of two books, he's learned that quantity and quality aren't opposing forces. Here's what else he's taught me about writing: 1. The brain is for having ideas, not storing them. Write stuff down. 2. If you really want to learn something, don't just consume information. Create something about it. 3. Note-taking is a form of time-travel. You don’t just take notes to remember ideas. You also take notes to remember experiences. Reading your notes takes you back to a different state of consciousness. Note-taking is a rebellion against the entropy of memory. 4. Save only the best notes: Don't hoard information. Save only the top 5-10% of your ideas. That way, you can trust that everything in your note-taking system is high-quality. 5. Tiago’s dad is an artist who taught him an important lesson: the energy to create art can dissipate in small, invisible ways if you let it. Set up a structure where you have the peace of mind and the bandwidth to do art. 6. The ultimate goal of note-taking is to improve your ideas. Too many people treat note-taking as an end in itself. Good morning, There are times when you have to seat down and have a meeting with yourself! Be honest and ask yourself the tough questions? Yes my parents didn’t leave me a lot but they made me as literate as they could. Yes the economy is tough but have l really given it my all in trying to forge a path for myself or the next generation or l have chosen to accept what is being offered to me. Some decisions you have to question them yourself,l go around with an iPhone 17 promax but l saved for 4 months to buy the gadget,is this the best use of your 4 months savings ? You can afford to have a small stand but instead l believe in Yolo,you only live once so l rent a $1000 dollar apartment instead of $400 dollar,yet at 40 years the same person will be blaming the economy for not owning a home. I have a friend who is either at Evitro,Smokehouse and he posts receipts every Monday,$900 or $1200 and they will be 4 of them every weekend. So l do the quick maths,that’s $200 per weekend for beer plus probably another $100-$150 for the girls they will be with, It’s simple maths that is about a $1000 USD per month of You only Live once,then add the rentals and fuels e.t.c per month that’s around $1500 to $2000,yet he doesn’t mind because he believes he will even make it bigger and better. The honest question is what guarantee does he have that tomorrow he will have this capacity to make $2000 a month or more like he is doing now! I am one of those people who is so obsessed with traveling and running ,sat down with myself and noticed that last year l went to SA 5 times to just run and at a minimum if l go with family that is 2 k per trip,so roughly that is 10 k spent on just running,one day my kids will ask dad what did you do with your life and l will give them stupid medals if l don’t mange myself! Good morning, There are times when you have to seat down and have a meeting with yourself! Be honest and ask yourself the tough questions? Yes my parents didn’t leave me a lot but they made me as literate as they could. Yes the economy is tough but have l really given it my all in trying to forge a path for myself or the next generation or l have chosen to accept what is being offered to me. Some decisions you have to question them yourself,l go around with an iPhone 17 promax but l saved for 4 months to buy the gadget,is this the best use of your 4 months savings ? You can afford to have a small stand but instead l believe in Yolo,you only live once so l rent a $1000 dollar apartment instead of $400 dollar,yet at 40 years the same person will be blaming the economy for not owning a home. I have a friend who is either at Evitro,Smokehouse and he posts receipts every Monday,$900 or $1200 and they will be 4 of them every weekend. So l do the quick maths,that’s $200 per weekend for beer plus probably another $100-$150 for the girls they will be with, It’s simple maths that is about a $1000 USD per month of You only Live once,then add the rentals and fuels e.t.c per month that’s around $1500 to $2000,yet he doesn’t mind because he believes he will even make it bigger and better. The honest question is what guarantee does he have that tomorrow he will have this capacity to make $2000 a month or more like he is doing now! I am one of those people who is so obsessed with traveling and running ,sat down with myself and noticed that last year l went to SA 5 times to just run and at a minimum if l go with family that is 2 k per trip,so roughly that is 10 k spent on just running,one day my kids will ask dad what did you do with your life and l will give them stupid medals if l don’t mange myself! Is Petoskey Becoming Traverse City 2.0? A housing development full of condos costing over $1.8 million is sure to only bring the worst sort of people to town By O.W. Root O.W. The orange cones, the overturned soil, the trucks, the trees coming down, and the mini billboard out front designed to give everyone a little taste of what’s to come. It’s all viewed as a worrying harbinger of unwanted change. That sounds like fuddy-duddy-ism, I know. But it isn’t entirely. The towns on the lake Up North are quaint, beautiful, old, and almost every new build is the exact opposite. True, a new build can’t be an old house. But a new place can be designed to blend naturally with its surroundings. Curiously, they almost never are. The new buildings are almost always ugly eyesores sullying villages that remind us of more human times. New builds also mean more people are coming, and that’s not always a good thing. Yes, we need tourists in the summer, and a certain in-flow of new arrivals every so often is good and natural for a town. It means a place is attractive and desirable. But look at what’s happened to Traverse City. I hate to say it, but I hate going to Traverse City. It’s not a lake town anymore. It’s something much worse. In Petoskey, there’s a lot of construction going on, and it’s not all exactly encouraging. There are more buildings going up right now than any time in the past five years. Driving by some of these sites gives me somewhat of a sick feeling. It feels a little like an early stage Traverse City 2.0. Not all these new builds are equally worrying. The story is a little more complex. There is an actual housing shortage on Little Traverse Bay, and it’s not related to new arrivals who want to buy $750,000 homes. Reasonably priced housing is missing. A common complaint for many business owners is staff shortages. Simply put, normal working people can’t afford to live here, so there aren’t enough workers for the businesses here. That’s a real problem if you want your town to thrive. What we are seeing right now in Petoskey are two kinds of new buildings going up. The difference between them and their potential impacts are stark. Some are critical for the life of the town, and some will most likely attract the worst kind of people. Let us take a look at an example of each type of new build currently going up in Petoskey. The Block at Petoskey The Block at Petoskey is a brand new apartment complex on Standish Avenue, just west of Bear Creek River. It’s in a slow part of town, right at the edge where the houses trickle off and into the more commercial area approaching Meijer. Across the street are a tanning salon and an auto repair shop. The Block at Petoskey is set to include a gym, walking trails, a yoga studio, and a clubhouse. To be honest, The Block at Petoskey has nicer amenities than any apartment complex I’ve ever lived in. It includes just about everything you might want with a 2 bed-2 bath unit going for $1,724 per month. Aesthetically, the Block at Petoskey is okay. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. It’s just fine. It’s not real bonafide cheap, but it’s not crazy either, and it’s certainly not luxury pricing. It’s built and priced for people who work for a living. It’s a needed development which will benefit the town. The Summit Over Bay Harbor The Summit Over Bay Harbor is an absurd development set to tower over US-31, just north of Bay Harbor. Based on the highly produced sleek simulations found on their website, the units might best be described as modern luxury. They are quite frankly, soulless expensive Lego slop. They have absolutely nothing in common with any of the traditional architecture of the area. They say Northern Michigan about as much as a cactus does. They start at—yes, start at—$1.8 million. Based on their map, they are planning almost 75 units. It’s a very nice area up here, but is it nice enough for 75 $1.8 million units? Eh, I don’t know about that. I’m not sure there is enough capital here to support 75 year-round residents who want to shell out $1.8 million for what amounts to a modern condo overlooking 31 and Bay Harbor. The traditional type of Northern resident (seasonal or year-round) who wants to spend $1.8 million will generally seek out a historical home or build something more culturally in-line with the area. Say what you want about Bay Harbor, but at least they try. There is something a little off about it there only because it’s impossible to build something new that also feels organic and old. But the spirit and direction is right. The hope is correct at Bay Harbor. At least the homes feel like they are attempting some kind of organic integration into the historical architecture and general spirit of the area. The Summit Over Bay Harbor is most likely not going to be for the traditional kinds of residents of Little Traverse Bay. I very much doubt that the majority of the units will be lived in year-round. Most will be short-term rentals. I suspect the units will function more as investments for people who don’t live here. There will be no positive cultural impact. Keeping the lake towns as the lake towns we love is an extremely delicate operation. Balancing new arrivals, housing, jobs, local culture, trying to remain vital while not destroying the reason we want to be here in the first place is like balancing on a tightrope. It needs to be done very carefully. Petoskey needs apartments like The Block at Petoskey. These more reasonably priced places will certainly help to keep working residents here and the town alive year-round. Petoskey doesn’t need the soulless investment units of The Summit over Bay Harbor unless we want to become Traverse City 2.0. And we certainly don’t.

We wanted to speak up only after we had enough time to process what happened, because we don’t want our words to come across as impulsive or based on incomplete information. Before putting out a serious accusation, especially one involving an artist, the bare minimum should be to check the facts and make sure the information being shared is actually true. Second, this was not just a harmless misunderstanding. A false narrative was quickly amplified, redirecting attention from what should have been a happy concert night and creating unnecessary hate and accusations toward people who had nothing to do with it. What makes this even more disappointing is where this accusation came from and how quickly it was believed. The original claim came from a vile shipper account that has openly shown hostility toward 🐯 and has repeatedly spread malicious claims about him. Instead of treating such a serious accusation with caution and verifying it independently, the claim was immediately taken at face value and amplified to thousands of people. And when people started correcting the information, JmPopbase (@/jmpopbase) was quick to hide comments on their original post. Instead of taking those corrections as an opportunity to stop, review the footage, and fact-check what had been reported to them, the corrections were hidden while the accusation continued to circulate. This is exactly why fact-checking matters. The footage and timeline show that the phone was already there before Jimin reached that part of the stage. This could have been easily verified before accusing an entire group of fans—and more importantly, before allowing 🐯’s name to be dragged into it. To everyone who was quick to believe the accusation and spread it further, we urge you to stop. Please do your own fact-checking before joining a hate train. When I was born, Sweden was the richest country in the world. Today I can’t live there. Back then, Sweden was also the safest country in the world. And we had the lowest child mortality. It was a trust and honor based society. Little enforcement was needed. I’ve never been tricked or scammed by a native Swede. High tax yes, but with free healthcare, free school and free universities, all world class. Whether your dad was rich or poor, you had the same opportunity, same access to the best universities. Only real merit mattered for admission. We had the most global companies in the world per person. We dominated many global industries. We even produced some of the best music and dominated several sports. Quite a feat for a nation of then 8 million people. Today I can’t realistically even live in Sweden - unless I want my house raided and my family assaulted by criminal gangs operating out of no-go zones in the suburbs of Stockholm. Everyone’s home address is public, a remnant from the trust based era. In one generation, the country has been destroyed, largely by one bad policy decision. I’m not against immigration. I’ve lived in 10 countries. I’m the foreigner now. Immigration is not the problem. Just look at the epic success of Singapore or Dubai. They literally made their success through immigration - merit based. Or look at the CEOs of companies in Silicon Valley - many immigrants. Sweden’s mistake is not doing *merit based* immigration, which means to qualify each person individually. It’s the opposite of racism. - Doctor? Yes. - Engineer? Yes. - Pirate? No. - Lost your police clearance in a boating accident? Also no. Instead in Sweden we did the other way around. - Qualified with all papers? Super difficult to get in. - No papers at all? Awww.. Poor you. Let’s bring 100,000 of those, based on ethnicity. But what about the human aspect? The compassion. Still makes no sense because with the money it costs to bring one failed integration case to Sweden, you can help 100 people in their home country through development projects. Helping 100 people is better than helping 1. So what to do now? It’s difficult. The criminals need to be locked up or thrown out. Every last one. Singapore and Dubai tolerate no crime. In El Salvador, Bukele sent 2,000 soldiers to arrest 2 people. What happens then? Suddenly the next criminal discovers a sudden passion for a new line of work. In Sweden the police is filling out a form and adding it to the pile marked “no resources”. Unfortunately I think Sweden needs to hit rock bottom before politicians are ready to embark on an El Salvador style clean-up. It needs to become safe and attractive to be an entrepreneur in Sweden. Today it is not. We need incentives attracting entrepreneurs, not pushing them away. Sweden was a poor and rather miserable country in the 1800s. Many emigrated to Minnesota and other places for their children to not starve to death. Then Sweden became a wealthy global mega success in the 1900s, thanks to great leadership and brave entrepreneurs. Sweden can do that journey again but it will take real leadership - a Bukele moment of real change. Good luck.
