Yes, the filibuster can make legislating difficult. But it doesn’t give Senate Republicans an excuse to give up on the SAVE America Act just because there aren’t currently 60 votes for the bill. We should return to it immediately—and stay on it until it passes.

With all due respect, that would inflict immeasurable harm on the effort to pass this bill. That is not to say that I agree with his approach here. I don’t, and that’s why I’m advocating as aggressively as I am, focusing on the need to get this bill back on the floor as soon as possible.

Why can’t the senate bypass or push back on the parliamentarian? I don’t understand why that position has so much power.

That position is not supposed to have nearly as much power as it does, or more accurately, as many senators seem inclined to give it. The Senate parliamentarian is a member of the Senate staff. Like any other staffer, she provides advice. We are free to accept or reject it.

If the senate parliamentarian tried to do to a democrat led senate what this one is trying to do, the democrats would tell her to kick rocks. States don’t have rights; they have authority. If you’re talking about state authority and principles of federalism, you’re still mistaken. Congress has authority under Article I, Section 4 of the Constitution to make or alter regulations for the states to follow when conducting federal elections. If that were not the case, then the NVRA would be unconstitutional. And if there were no NVRA, the need for the SAVE America Act wouldn’t be nearly as pressing.
