We think about ancient Rome, Greece, the British Empire, the American revolution, the Chinese dynasties, the Seminole Chieftain, what our grandfather did, and what happened yesterday. We think about the state of the Republic, we think about the future of the Republic. We think about how court rulings are going to effect demographics in 50 years. We think about what our value structure will look like after automation. We think about how the train networks of the world were built. We compare the value of certain freedoms, institutions, traditions, methods of governance, and economic strategies. We do this while also planning how we'd fight anyone around us, or escape any disaster that could beset us, in the moment. Men want to know how things got here, what heroic deeds were done, what failures occurred in the past. Because we use that to map how we should behave in the present, and how things will likely be in the future. That map is essential for the survival of the humanity.
