PAKISTAN: Today on International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, thousands of families await the return of their loved ones. Today, Amnesty International and seven other civil society organizations highlighted the failure of the Pakistani authorities to address enforced disappearance and continued injustice for victims. The government-formed Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (COIED) has registered a total of 10,592 cases from 2010 to August 2025. However, not a single person or authority has been prosecuted in these cases. Across Azad Jammu & Kashmir, reports of police brutality, excessive use of force, arbitrary arrests, intimidation, unlawful raids, and violations of fundamental rights have become increasingly widespread. These incidents have left countless families traumatised and raise serious concerns about the rule of law and the protection of basic human rights. In this video, Dr Masood Khalid shares his own account of the police raid on his home and the treatment he says he and his family endured. His experience reflects the growing concerns being voiced by people across Azad Jammu & Kashmir. JKJAAC calls upon the international human rights organisations, and the wider international community to urgently monitor, investigate, and respond to the deteriorating human rights situation in Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Yet Lucy Connolly got 31 months for a far less serious offence. This is two tier justice in action. On this International Human Rights Day, BYC Central Member Sammi Deen Baloch states that Balochistan continues to face one of the gravest human rights crises of our time. Decades of systematic violence, fear, and repression have left deep psychological and socio-political wounds on the people of Balochistan. The suffering of the people of Balochistan remains largely ignored by the international community and by those organisations that call themselves champions of human rights. According to the BYC Human Rights Department, enforced disappearances have reached alarming levels, with 1,080 cases reported this year alone, including 53 minors. Disturbingly, Pakistani authorities are now targeting women and girls; 12 girls were forcibly disappeared in 2025, of whom three remain missing, and 189 extrajudicial killings were reported, including six women. Pakistani military operations, drone attacks, mortar shelling, artillery fire, and other assaults have become daily practices of the rogue paramilitary forces, resulting in the displacement of entire villages and small towns across the province. She highlights that human rights activists are the beacon of hope for oppressed people. Yet in Balochistan, human rights defenders are threatened, charged in fabricated cases, and hundreds of students and teachers face false accusations and FIRs for peaceful activism. Freedom of speech and expression is treated as a crime. My plea to Mohammed Yunus, the caretaker PM, is to get control of this country and handle these extremists because the Bengali people are beautiful people and they can live in peace... All around the world, when extremists get ground, evil prevails, even in Pakistan... We need a global focus on women's rights... The human rights of Hindus and Christians are targeted... But in Bangladesh, a big part of Hinduism has been targeted... This goes back to the war of independence in Bangladesh, where the Pakistani army deliberately attacked Hindus... Someone has to speak out. It's 2025. We cannot let extremists take over this world. I've been working together with Muslim leaders, Hindu leaders from India, to build an understanding and dialogue... But I accuse the UN of not addressing these issues... Torture is common in these countries... I accuse the UN because it is very dysfunctional. The governments are letting these things happen...
