Very big decision by Gujarat Govt, announced by DCM Harsh Sanghavi Bhai: Parental consent will now be mandatory for the registration of love marriages. This decision has been taken primarily to curb incidents like Love Jihad. It will also be mandatory to mention parents’ details in the marriage registration form. To ascertain family consent, government officers will personally meet the families of both the bride and the groom to verify their approval. If any family member objects to the marriage, an official hearing will be conducted on the basis of a written objection application, with a fixed time limit of 30 days.
