Pure political theater from Mayor Johnson today. In what was obviously a prearranged question, when the mayor was asked about the OIG report on illegal migrants, the question focused more on whether procurement and payment rules were followed rather than the nearly $700 million spent to accommodate illegal migrants. In his answer, Johnson engaged in some dramatics in his attempt to divert attention from his prioritizing of illegal migrants over city residents, especially Black residents. Chicago spent $639.6 million alone to house 46,282 people during the migrant crisis. Contrast that with the fact that the current administration has only, to date, created fewer than 600 affordable housing units of their promised 10K. Meanwhile, both Johnson and Gov. Pritzker Johnson-Pritzker continue to push the narrative that the migrant crisis was all manufactured by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, and not a consequence of Sanctuary City policies. Illinois and Chicago could have halted or slowed the influx of migrants by simply imposing fines on bus companies or even seizing buses that transported migrants across state lines without expressed permission. What City of Chicago officials did last night at the "community meeting" to hear from residents about Mayor Brandon Johnson Brandon Johnson's plan to put his winterized base camp for migrants in Brighton Park was downright deplorable. Thousands of residents turned out and were locked out of an auditorium space where seats were available. The residents, lined up for blocks, chanted "open the door," and "Ramirez is a coward." And while residents were prevented from entry, observers say CTU organizers and Chicago Democrat Socialists packed the event to "astroturf" for Mayor Johnson's plan against area resident wishes. For the record, I don't believe Julia Ramirez when she says she didn't know that the 38th and California lot was already being developed for the migrant tent city. Just like I don't believe her claim that she and a staffer were assaulted. Every time I asked Lori Lightfoot about violent crime in Chicago, she snapped back: “Crime is down.” That was a lie. Now Mayor Johnson is playing the same statistics game—and most of the Chicago media just accept it. Watch Gov. Pritzker try to back up Mayor Johnson’s claim that over the last four years violent crime has gone down and the murder rate has been cut in half—then see him confronted with the data showing that, per 100,000 residents, Chicago has the highest murder rate of any major city in America. This kind of double talk on crime is unacceptable. No reporter—or anyone else—should take these statements at face value..
