During this interview with Anthony Albanese the hosts press him on why nuclear power is banned… Albo: “no one is saying that - hey, we want to invest in this [nuclear]. No one.” Host: “There's a rule that says you can't.” Albo: “No, that's because it doesn’t stack up.” Host: “Why do you need a rule if the business case doesn’t stack up, to ban it?” Albo: “Because it doesn’t stack up” Host: “Well, get rid of the moratorium, then” The lack of clear answers goes to show that the government’s only justification for defending the bans on nuclear power is politics. It is wrong to conflate the economics of nuclear with a principled position to just consider nuclear power. At this time, we need all options on the table, including nuclear power. Between 1970 and 1990, America built 95 gigawatts of nuclear capacity. But then momentum stalled: regulation tightened, costs soared, and we gradually lost the will and ability to build. Today, China is racing ahead. With 30 reactors under construction and hundreds of gigawatts in the pipeline, they’re on track to quickly surpass U.S. nuclear capacity. It’s time for a nuclear renaissance — for energy abundance, for national security, and for American prosperity. It’s time to build again.

Its alarming the Assistant Minister isn't aware of the billions being invested by major tech companies including Meta, Microsoft and Google or private utilities around the world. Australia's ideological nuclear bans close the door to private investment. We already have nuclear regulators in Australia, including ANNPSR, that the government just created for the nuclear submarines. The nuclear industry is growing around the world with around 60 countries either adding or exploring adding nuclear to their energy mix. Good luck trying to get more of Australia’s uranium Narendra Modi. Last time India requested Australia’s uranium, Albanese opposed then PM Gillard and spoke against exporting. In 2007, he said on a uranium mining motion “the light on the hill is not the glow of radiation from a nuclear waste dump”. And in the recent nuclear fear campaign he posted that scenic Aussie locations were “under threat” from nuclear power plants. Hopefully our Prime Minister wakes up to the fact Australia is one of the only advanced economies not investing in nuclear soon…

When you stick-build something on location, those things have become more expensive and slower... the more you can build in quantity in manufacturing facilities, we're very good at driving the cost of those down.
