This is what generational change looks like. Yesterday, U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Storis transited the Panama Canal, marking a significant milestone on its maiden voyage towards its future homeport in Juneau. After departing the Panama Canal, Storis met three recently decommissioned 110’ Island-Class Patrol Boats from Alaska – USCGCs Liberty, Mustang, and Naushon. These are the last of the storied 110’s, being succeeded by the modern Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutters. Today’s passage exemplifies the Coast Guard’s transformation under Force Design 2028. As the United States’ third polar icebreaker, Storis will bring innovative capabilities and crewing to assure access to the polar regions and protect U.S. sovereignty.
