@Tesla @TevTevTevin It's not like they were in the center median and it didn't stop. All the way on the opposite end of a 4 lane street? I know the drivers ed instructor would say to stop, but I wouldn't have in that situation.

What distance from the crosswalk do you believe a car should go through once a person steps in the crosswalk? State of California calls the driving in the video legal, so outside of the law, what's the rationale for slamming on the brakes anytime a toe enters the street?

That's honestly a damn good question. When I pull up the B pillar camera she was only 5ish feet into the walk. HOWEVER, the Ped Xing lights were flashing to tell cars to stop. I'm honestly stuck on this one.

I think it's fair to defer to the law, and California has one of the most pedestrian friendly laws in the country. In not so few words, "exercise due care" and "take … action relating to the operation of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian.

@Tesla @TevTevTevin You're not supposed to stop this abruptly. If you're already moving fast enough just go through Cars behind you would wait as they have greater distance from the crosswalk to stop

Still if you're already moving normal speed right behind a crosswalk you still have the right of way over the pedestrian. Only cars that are able to stop must yield

@Tesla @TevTevTevin Mine will stab the brakes hard at every crosswalk with signage, when no pedestrians are present. V14 lite is not great

@Tesla @TevTevTevin Flashing yellow means to slow down- not stop. Based on the video, the pedestrian wasn’t even close to you and you could have gone through easily. So this is not a good example imo. However- my v14 lite doesn’t do a great job of flashing red lights

@RealDanODowd @Tesla @TevTevTevin Road A → Pedestrian Refuge Island → Road B If you are driving on Road B, and the pedestrian is still crossing Road A and has not reached the median island yet, you can generally continue driving, as long as you do not interfere with or endanger the pedestrian.

Trade-off. Lights starting blinking but braking would be a bit harsh. Pedestrian just left the other side curb not even quarter way ,plus there is a median too.. This stop would be robotic in nature and what I believe is not INTELLIGENT BEHAVIOUR. this a good case to discuss. I think this is okay. if you believe you were stopping smoothly then I think @tesla_ai team needs to analyze so can train FSD to use regen and stop smoothly. these scenarios are great to analyze.

@Tesla @TevTevTevin I thought the rule was that you are allowed to proceed through the cross walk as long as the obstruction was a safe distance from your vehicle and intended path...

@Tesla @TevTevTevin The whole point was the car should have stopped at The Pedestrian Crossing with the lights flashing and somebody already in the road.

@Tesla @TevTevTevin Totally safe. I'm glad we have people out here who are scared of driving their car, and truly think that the system that cannot do one of the basic things drivers need to do is SO much safer than people that they shouldn't even drive without FSD at all. Wacky times.

@Tesla @TevTevTevin I think you are only supposed to stop at a solid red light but be aware at flashing lights and stop as needed. At least it is according to the signs in Sonoma at pedestrian crossing with lights.
