Yikes: NFL analyst Greg Cosell does NOT think the legendary Eli Manning had a Hall of Fame caliber career. “His regular season record does not make him a hall of fame quarterback. He was a .500 quarterback in his career. His TD-INT ratio is very poor relative to what... show more

This is where the Hall of Fame debate gets tricky. If you judge Eli strictly by regular season efficiency, the argument makes sense. But football is not played in spreadsheets. Beating Brady twice on the biggest stage, with iconic playoff runs and clutch throws, is part of the sport’s history. The Hall is about legacy as much as consistency. You cannot tell the story of the NFL in that era without Eli Manning, and that usually matters more than a TD to INT ratio.

Finally, someone who speaks the truth!!! Don’t fall for Eli Manning to the Hall of Fame…if he hadn’t had David Tyree, we wouldn’t even be talking about him being considered. If he makes it in, it’s a tossup between him and Troy Aikman for worst quarterback ever to make the Hall

You cannot tell the story of the NFL without Eli. He beat the best coach/player/team 2 times in the biggest game and had 2 of the best throws of all time in each game. It’s Hall of Fame; not Hall of Stats.

Eli is always buns and carried by his team. He would've been replaced forever ago had his last name not been manning.

@McClain_on_NFL Eli’s average season from 2005-18 336/555 (60.6%), 3924 yards, 25 TD, 16 INT, 84.8 QB Rating The average NFL QB season from 2005-18 335/544 (61.5%), 3842 yards, 23 TD, 15 INT, 85.6 QB Rating

Without the two super bowls, he’s remembered as Vinny testaverde

Terry Bradshaw is in the hall despite being carried by a great team. Eli threw for 30,000 more yards than Bradshaw! and 154 more touchdowns along with a completion percentage of 60% versus Bradshaw 51.9. I won’t even go into Joe Namath. This argument is ridiculous. Eli is a HOFer

0 all pros and 0 MVPs, not a hall of famer.

I disagree, but then again Bill Belichick isn’t, so who knows anymore?

I could understand if Eli only had 1 Super Bowl. If you win Super Bowl MVP twice against the best coach and qb combo in history you’re HOF

Eli cannot be judged by traditional statistics or metrics. 2 SB MVPs, 2x SB champ, the iron man streak, and all those 4th quarter comeback wins are more than enough. It’s just being a hater at this point to keep him out of the watered down HOVG.

It really comes down to how much you weight playoff performance. You could honestly make the same argument for Julian Edelman. Fairly average regular season production but in the playoffs... 3x Super Bowl Champion 1x Super Bowl MVP 3rd all-time receptions 3rd all-time rec yds 2nd all-time in 100 rec yds games (6)

He holds the record for the most passing yards in a single NFL postseason. He beat unbelievable teams on the road to get to the Superbowl. He beat the GOAT twice. He had mediocre talent on offense every year. The int ratio was high because he launched it to take big shots

He’s 2 catches that had less than a 1% chance of being caught away from 0 super bowls

Yes, two Super Bowl wins and MVP awards make a player an instant Hall of Famer. There is no other correct answer.

He didn’t his defenders would say he had 8 great games but he played for 16 years. He was never a top 5 quarterback his entire career. He’s a good quarterback but not a HOF QB and that’s okay it’s okay to not make the HOF

Johnny Unitas Dan fouts Warren moon also had .500 records in regular season and 2 of those were first ballot HOFs so kindly STFU

You can’t put Eli manning in and not Jim plunkett.

Namath, Moon, Fouts, Aikman. There are others but those four are a good starting place. Namath’s numbers are abysmal.

Agreed. He led the NFL in interceptions twice and was benched at the end of his career.

Separating his “career” from the two Super Bowls is idiotic. Your argument already diminishes itself by doing that. It’s a part of it. No wonder why the HOF has become such a joke!

He didn’t. He was an average qb who’s team came to life at just the right time a couple of times

What HOF is he in?

Where has this "you can't tell the story of the NFL" without (fill in the blank) HOF criteria come from? HOF is about sustained elite play, not "telling stories." Manning is not a HOF based on his play, over the course of seasons, not two playoff runs.

You can't say NFL history without Eli. You simply can't

Have you seen Troy Aikmans career TD to interception ratio??

He’s 100% correct

Yikes: That’s a reasonable and correct opinion Yikes.

The Hall of Very Good Eli Manning Phillip Rivers Matt Ryan Cam Newton

Nobody thought Eli was a top 5 qb at any time he played most his career he wasn’t top 10, it’s like putting Joe Flacco in the hall of fame because Super Bowl or I guess Jalen hurts when he retires this isn’t the hall of very good, it’s the hall of fame, just put Nick foles in

I agree. Eli was mid at best. Had two good playoff runs, & honestly miraculously won in 07, . Though a win is a win, can’t take it away.. but they won on D, not cause of him.

QB win loss record is a goofy metric Josh Allen was credited w/a "win" in WK 18 despite playing ONE snap

He hasn’t!

No one cares about his regular season record. Sports are about winning championships. Eli had not one but two legendary playoff runs. Two legendary playoff wins in which he made key throws to win late in both games and two Super Bowl MVP’s

@Buccigross He’s def not a Hall of Famer. Ave QB at best who had two good games in the SB for a position that’s heavily favored to win the MVP.
