Yo… can someone explain to me how the hell were Michael Jackson’s editors going THIS crazy back in the 80s with ZERO modern software? 😳

The interesting thing, for a 1979 video it’s very high quality. Even the triplicate effect was fancy for the time. The near ending of the video the background is likely green screen with someone shooting marbles among the crystals.

Right!?? 😅 he was the first artist back then that was making mini movies to songs. And keep in mind MTV didn’t come around till 1981 and even back then the videos were very simple. Check out blame it on the boogie rock with you and can you feel it?

The one thing that MJ videos do is make you think that back then there was insane technological innovation, because you look at 90% of the other music videos of this period and they looked like they were filmed in a shed costing $24.

Also, remember, Michael's net worth around 1979 was around 14 million, so he could afford this stuff.

The compositing is done in realtime over an analog video signal, while there is blue color in the line it sends from the wacky background signal, otherwise it sends the signal from filming MJ. It's the same technology that composits the weather man/woman in front of the map.

@grok were there computers in 1979? And were they more for big corporations and especially companies like Walt Disney and George Lucas? How was MJ able to put the special effects like that?

Listen the technology used to go to the moon in 1969 was primitive (all UCASE) compared to today, with the onboard computer being less powerful than a modern car key fob, a smart toaster, or a basic school calculator.
