I just finished watching the video. I honestly want to thank you for taking the time to put together such a detailed and thoughtful video, even when you clearly didn’t have to. Like I’ve always said, you don’t owe anybody an explanation, so the fact that you went out of your way to do this is highly appreciated. The video is based on your own research and understanding. As you rightly pointed out, you are not an agricultural scientist. Thank you, Doctor. That being said, see this comment as me airing my own views and not trying to go back and forth with you. Your video has actually validated most of the serious concerns many of us have raised about GMO seeds. You pointed out that GMO seeds can wipe out local seeds. When (not if) that happens, farmers would be entirely dependent on the corporations who own these GMO seeds, and that’s one of the scariest parts. What happens when these companies decide to withhold seeds? Or increase prices astronomically? What if they manipulate supply during a food crisis or economic downturn? These companies patent their seeds, meaning farmers can’t save or replant them, which breaks the age old cycle of farming passed from generation to generation. It forces farmers into buying seeds year after year, leading to endless debt cycles. This is not hypothetical. It’s been happening, especially in places like India, where thousands of farmers have taken their own lives because they couldn’t keep up. GMO crops are heavily reliant on chemical herbicides like glyphosate, and this has led to overuse, contaminating soil and water, and destroying the natural microorganisms that keep our soil fertile. It gets worse. Over time, when weeds and pests develop resistance to these chemicals, what happens? Farmers will use more toxic chemicals. The long term environmental damage is reala soil degradation, biodiversity loss. On health side, true the biotech industry insists GMOs are safe, but then there are no long term INDEPENDENT study tracking what happens to the human body after decades of consuming genetically modified foods. These are foods altered at the DNA level by inserting genes from unrelated species o!. Some of these modifications may trigger allergic reactions or unknown side effects in some people, especially vulnerable populations like Africa. There’s also concern that GMO crops may have unintended interactions in our bodies or lead to antibiotic resistance… these are the issues. And doc, plants and seeds do evolve naturally like the corn you mentioned, it not genetically modified. There’s also political side. GMOs will give massive multinational corporations a dangerous amount of control over our food system. It’s no longer about farming, it’s about business and patents. The bigger picture is what this does to food security. When only a few corporations control the seeds, they control the food. If they fail, sabotage, or become compromised, entire nations can starve. This is not even conspiracy theory. These are what could happen. This is not just a scientific issue. It’s a moral one. It’s political. It’s generational. It’s about sovereignty over food, over land, and over life itself. Once you lose that, you’re at the mercy of those who own the means to grow your food. Again, the person aggressively pushing for GMO seeds in Africa and Asia is Bill Gates. In 2010 TED Talk, Gates said, “The world today has 6.8 billion people. That’s headed up to about nine billion. Now, if we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services, we could lower that by, perhaps, 10 or 15 percent.” If anything, farmers, those who feed most of Africa and Asia, are being pushed out. Indigenous farming wisdom is being erased. Seed diversity is disappearing. We are replacing resilient, diverse, naturally adapted seeds with patented, fragile, lab made clones. The price of getting it wrong is too high especially when it’s aggressively pushed in Africa by… BILL GATES.

Government designates an area far away from local seeds until they change decisions to designate areas of local farmers who do not want GMOs, if these farmers refuse, they deploy arms. Doctor comot body from this thing abeg, you have done so much good to just bin it this way.

Majority of EU countries have banned this thing and Nigeria does not really need it, our lands are more than arable enough Why then is Bill Gates pushing this idea so aggressively to people who don't want it, with literally no scrutiny from the government, while running ads with cash and carry yeyebrities to give Nigerians the impression that he is what Nigeria and Africa needs to survive? What does he want?

Doctor said we're supposed to understand the benefits and the ugly part of it.... I was waiting for doc to explain the ugly part, but nah! Don't let scientific and medical jargons confuse you. Nothing beats natural food. Our Fathers fed from natural food and not GMO foods. GMO is a NO, and no amount of propaganda or advert from Few privilege people online should allow you accept what will affect you.

I never knew that Chinonso was also as disingenuously sly as the rest. Nonso, GMO, via cross-pollination of genes, can introduce new allergens. Some GMOs use antibiotic resistance genes as markers, which can introduce antibiotic resistance in human pathogens. You know this, man.

You said our forefathers genetically modified crops, fine! Did our forefathers use chemicals in such modifications? Did they monopolize the seeds and make them patent? Did the modified seeds by our forefathers kill off other natural plants or seeds? When cross-pollination happened, did the modified seeds by our forefathers kill off the natural seeds? What am I saying? Both modified and local seeds by our forefathers are natural, yes? About GMO seeds surviving dry lands or harsh soil texture there is something called irrigation, and it has been used for decades by farmers. In fact, I saw a blossoming farm right in the heart of the Sahara Desert last year, sustained via irrigation. These are the questions.

For a country like Nigeria and her fight for liberation from subtle Western control (still? Yes please), this GMO gospel is a valid source of concern. 1. Cooperate control and farmer dependency through Seed Patent by the sellers. They may trap our farmers into recurring purchases. 2. Potential loss of biodiversity (like you mentioned). Govt is saying they'll map out lands away from local farmers, but I call BS. 3. Environmental impact of large-scale monoculture farming. Cos, slowly, ours or local seeds will go, seeds that were resistant to our geographical conditions. Then, I have other questions like; * Where the seeds are from? * What modifications were made? Because, we know, the fact that something has always existed doesn't mean the version that'll come into Nigeria/Africa will be the same. Even the version of Guinness I drank in Nigeria isn't the same as what is being consumed here in Ireland - potency. The fears are valid, look at what they (you-know-who) did with vaccines and testing them on children in Kano with Pfizer killing 11 and many more deformed. Another question; What studies (in Africa, by Africans) support their safety? My worries stern from genuine concerns about sovereignty, exploitation, and historical injustice. I yield the mic. 🎤

Why do GMO foods have no seeds in them? I'm also concerned that if insects can't consume a GMO seed or its plants isn't it hazardous for human consumption?

There is hardly a food we are eating today that hasn't undergone GMO, even we humans have undergone GMO too. But what people are saying is those who producing GMO, possess danger to the farmers, and people as they might. Do extreme modifications, since it lacks transparency. They will monopolize supply chain and determine who gets it or not. It could be used for population control. It's very harmful as some of these modified organisms can erase the natural ones. The danger is too much.

I watched your soundbites, and when I eventually find the time, I’ll respond to your video on GMOs, that patchwork of tales by moonlight you confidently presented under the guise of scientific enlightenment. @aproko_doctor, @Jessseglee, you may think you're being clever, but intellectual posturing is no substitute for depth, discipline, and evidence-based reasoning. Perhaps when I’m done, I’ll offer you both a masterclass in agricultural science, plant genetics, and food systems, not for clout, but for clarity. Let’s be clear: conversation on biotechnology is far too critical to be reduced to soundbites and viral edits. Class will commence soon. Stay tuned.

THE FARMERS WILL BE DEPENDENT ON THE GMO SUPPLIERS EVERY FARMING SEASON FOR SEEDLINGS... THE WORLD WILL BE DEPENDENT ON GMO SUPPLIERS FOR FOOD... Dr., the biggest concern for many is the idea of certain companies having complete control of seeds in the future. And that is the end goal of these companies. We know a point will come (if GMO is wildly accepted) when we will look for local seeds, we won't find as GMO seeds will definitely overshadow local seeds. And every farmer will have a single choice of buying from companies. Do you know what that means? These superpower companies/countries will use it as a weapon to force people into their bidding. No one should have control of what people eat.
