A Muslim couple hosting “biksha” for Ayyappa Deeksha devotees. This is their third year. Actually there are many Muslims who host devotees in Ayyappa Swamy Deeksha in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This may feel shocking in the “new” India but many Muslims do visit Sabarimala. Little piece of history - it is said that Swamy Ayyappa’s closest friend is Vavar or Vavarswami, a muslim. The Vavar Mosque in Erumeli is considered a religious site dedicated to Vavar. It is a starting point for the Pettathullal, a spiritual dance performed by Ayyappa devotees during the Makaravilaku / Makara Sankranthi season. #India #SecularSoverignDemocraticRepublic #TheIndiaIKnow #SouthIndia
