Average users can use a template, like the ones I make! This one is free, and the automation instantly works: "Notion + template" is fairly analogous to "dev stack + application layer". Folks should think of Notion as in between traditional apps like Todoist and dev stacks like Laravel. It's a set of building blocks, so automations like this expose users to some of the same concepts devs have to address when building the same features into traditional apps.

Notion is a platform for building tools, not really a specific tool out of the box. This is one of the consequences of that. If you start with a template, you do that simplicity! As for recurring appointments – those are fundamentally different to how task managers handle recurring tasks. Calendar apps use RRULEs:
