A reminder of the bygone age of RTE Sport. Fun, passionate, resonated with the man and woman on the street, analysts allowed to be themselves. Brolly, Spillane, O'Rourke, Loughnane, Dunphy, Giles, Brady, Ted Walsh, agree or disagree with them you still wanted to hear them.

I was in hospital with a very serious diagnosis that eventually proved to be false. For a brief moment I forgot about that issue as Joe took to the stage. I miss him on RTE.

The follow-up moment is arguably better when Pat Spillane rightly provokes Joe further for defending that style of football for a decade.

When Gaelic games and punditry were worth more…..that synopsis would be deemed as hate speech these days.

Love him or loathe him..at least he had something to say. Unlike the cardboard cutouts they have in place now...
