Chapter 20 para 102 of the Parliamentary Standing Orders and Procedures clearly states: “The committee Chair cannot adjourn the meeting without the consent of a majority of the members”. Yet that is exactly what the Liberals did today at the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs. The second the Liberals got their majority they have been shutting down Parliamentary Committees which are in place to hold the government accountable. Canadians should watch closely to see the Liberals’ true colours. The moment they don’t need veterans, they shut them out and cast them aside.

Today Conservatives showed up to work for veterans at the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, but the Liberals canceled the meeting. Last week as soon as the Liberals had their majority they shut down committees, including improperly adjourning the Veterans Affairs Committee. This week, they are shutting down ACVA by not meeting today and later this week ensuring the meeting is closed to the public without cameras to hide what they plan to do with their new majority. If the past week is any indication, what they plan to do won’t be in the interest of veterans.
