Chapter 20 para 102 of the Parliamentary Standing Orders and Procedures clearly states: “The committee Chair cannot adjourn the meeting without the consent of a majority of the members”. Today Conservatives showed up to work for veterans at the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, but the Liberals canceled the meeting. Last week as soon as the Liberals had their majority they shut down committees, including improperly adjourning the Veterans Affairs Committee. This week, they are shutting down ACVA by not meeting today and later this week ensuring the meeting is closed to the public without cameras to hide what they plan to do with their new majority. If the past week is any indication, what they plan to do won’t be in the interest of veterans.
