Deuteronomy 14:22–29, speaks about using your tithes for communal feasts & support for the poor, widows & orphans. But here we have a modern day pastor telling you not to use it for something good unless you bring it to church forgetting that the people itself are the church.

I agree with him. However, since I can’t give it to God directly I keep it in my investment account on his behalf and borrow it from him from time to time.

All these pastors sef, you can see they don't want to ever let go of the tithe isn’t God in the people? If we believe we are his temple, then helping someone in need is also giving back to God. Caring for the suffering is as much worship as laying it on the altar.

Deuteronomy 14:26 in the King James Version reads: "And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household." Strong drink is alcohol, beer, whiskey, ogogoro, etc. Where did the bible say you should give tithe to a fancy jericoil hair pastor?

I will only agree with Pastor Chris on this if the modern church will spend at least 50% of their income on the poor. The first century church appointed 7 deacons for the sole purpose of taking care of daily, equitable distribution to the poor. The modern church builds schools, but tithe-paying members of the church can not afford fees to church schools. Don't expect church members to use their kid's school fees for tithes. The pre-1967 churches of Igboland built schools in every village, and even the poorest could afford good education

The issue of tithe isn't complicated as people think. Tithe is simply 10% of your earnings, while you keep 90% to yourself. Which means, for every 1000 naira, you pay 100 naira. And so on. Aza man dey collect 20 percent, your mind go dey sweet say you keep 80. When e reach God wey bring genuine deal, you go dey vex say you want give am 10%. Wake up guys. Tithing isn’t your assurance of prosperity. The Bible does not say that. The Bible teaches that God will pour us a blessing if we return a tithe honesty and not grudgingly. Blessings doesn’t equate to prosperity. Blessings could be in different forms ie good health, Safety of your home, family, children, blessings of a good job, relationships etc. He makes it sound as though tithing is Gods bribe to bless you. That’s not biblical.
