You could read Pat Murphy's lips before he was tossed: "It's got to be egregious." It's the same argument he made when Rhys Hoskins was called for obstruction on the homestand. I believe this is the part of the rule Murphy is citing.

He's probably arguing that when obstruction is called, the runner is awarded the base he was intending to achieve. In this case, that base is third base because no other runner was behind him to force him home. He never should have been awarded home.

I guess you can call him safe at third, but there is absolutely no reason for him to get home. That rule needs to change. He was not obstructed from scoring.
