Crying and whinin’! On a more serious note, the phenomenon that Andre Williams is pointing out is quite literally reversed in Asian culture. Asians, by and large, immediately jump to problem solving mode when faced with an impediment. They are so singularly focused on solving problems that the grievance stage is often not even acknowledged. This sometimes comes across as callous or inhuman to westerners but it has helped Asians move up the socioeconomic ladder in a way that blacks and poor whites have been unable to do. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do. I’m just saying it helps achieve economic independence and empowerment. Go ahead and pay attention the next time you cut an Asian off on the free way.
