Ah, partial agreement here. You have a very good point when you say "where you want to put your genitals is not an identity". People are not their desires! These days, making the bedroom the core of people's identity is a big thing. I think it's reductionist and has no bearing on the value of a human being. I also agree that some desires are disordered. Where we differ is how we determine which ones are benign, and which are disordered. The way I see it, disordered desires are those that cause more harm if indulged than if resisted (for example: desires for underage sex, adultery, or high risk practices like unprotected hookups with strangers etc.) Resisting a desire can also cause its own kind of harm (imagine a gay guy forcing himself to spend his whole life without intimacy, that must be horribly sad and lonely). From that viewpoint, I understand that for gay people, repressing their desire for the same sex (such as forcing themselves into celibacy, or faking heterosexuality and marrying the opposite sex dishonestly) would likely cause more suffering than engaging in their homosexuality responsibly in consenting, honest relationships. It's a complicated subject. I think you come to it with good intentions, but maybe you lack exposure to gay loved ones and their unique point of view. In my experience, having close ties with people directly affected by a moral or social issue is the key to understanding.
