There is a subtle nuance not captured in the subtitles here. 2B says 禁止されている. 禁止 = prohibited, forbidden. されている = This is the passive form, implying that something was deliberately made so by someone. So she isn't just saying "Feelings are prohibited"; she is stating that "Feelings have been made prohibited." This implies: - Feelings were allowed at some point in the past. - Someone deliberately took action to prohibit feelings. - Feelings are still prohibited now. - 2B lived through the change.

The worst part is that many dubbing and subtitling companies use English scripts to translate Japanese games because it's cheaper for them to hire English translators than Japanese ones. For example, the spanish subtitles for Automata are a translation from English, unfortunately

Sub is a just as dumb, it just "sounds" better because you don't speak the language. the writing sucks, but could the English be better? sure. you try it first - record how you think it should sound.
