Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher (R-East Nicolaus) and California Assembly Republicans argued the situation in Los Angeles "is a direct result" of California's sanctuary policies limiting interaction between local law enforcement and federal immigration enforcement. "It's propospertrous. It's ridiculous," said Gallagher. "So our locals cannot cooperate with ICE and our federal authorities. So what are they left to do? They have to go into these communities and do their jobs to enforce immigration law. And what are they met with when they come to do their job to enforce federal law? They are met with violent protestors -- many people who are throwing bricks, starting fires in the streets," he added. "These are criminals, these are criminal actions and it needs to be called out. Look, the bottom line is this: There needs to be law and order. Governor Newsom has continued to allow chaos to ensue. He does not have it under control," Gallagher continued. "We need to allow our federal law enforcement officers to do their jobs and we need to step out and take criminals out who are trying to impede them and committing crimes against law enforcement officers."
