I understand the 'why'... but it's a bad rule or interpretation of the rule. 1. Catcher can't block the plate "rule". runner is sprinting home. 2. thus... catcher must be able to come forward to receive the ball. The batter ran to onto Yawkey Way. He was definitely not interfered with. The call (I assume) also negates an amazing steal of home, which was successful, B/c (again, I'm assuming) the interference results in an immediate dead ball. If the rule was written/applied correctly: Runner steals home - safe Runner steals 2nd - safe Ball to the batter. But... the letter of the law was likely applied here.

Yeah you can’t interfere with the batters ability to swing the bat. Pretty much like calling time out in a middle of a play.
