I've had to force myself to instead call them optics or transceivers for a while now because of this. Well, this and I started my career working around long time network guys who called everything a GBIC, at least calling everything an SFP is slightly more accurate 😂

It's a explanation for someone starting out if in doubt read the tiny writing on them it will tell you what it is or get you glasses out or use the camera on you iphone and magnify if you are struggling to read it. top-tip

Good summary, there’s also SFP56 for 50Gb and the older QSFP+ standard for 40Gb. The numbers are how many lanes it has, so QSFP-DD is also called QSFP112. QSFP-DD800 doesn’t have a fancy name yet.
