When I see the term misinformation, or even disinformation that's a red flag for me. I see someone trying to censor and control my speech, my very thoughts. This is a relatively new term. Keep in mind when it has been used, and by whom.

Wouldn't let me sign the e-petition by continually refusing to recognise my legitimate street address in a drop-down menu that every other agency like VicRoads, AEC and ATO has no problem with and auto fills when I half type it. But this e-petition, nah my address doesn't exist.

As I know firsthand, social media giants already do a significant amount of censorship but Anthony Albanese will turbo charge the appalling censorship that already exists on most social media platforms through his Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation bill. This will further weaponise the labels of misinformation and disinformation against people like me who dare challenge the ideological agenda of the establishment. A healthy, functioning democracy requires freedom of speech, which means that ideas from across the ideological and political spectrum are discussed and debated with the hope that good arguments, guided by the light of truth, will win the day.

I know many of you have seen this outrageous answer from Steve MacKinnon regarding concerns over Bill C-22 but it needs to be revisited. This is exactly how the Liberal Government thinks. They can do no wrong & anyone who questions them will be name called & dismissed as tin foil hat wearing lunatics. Even though the bill would allow the public safety minister to secretly order electronic service providers to retain user metadata for a year and create back door access capabilities to their systems. Even privacy advocates & tech companies have raised the alarm on this Bill. When a Government wants to rush through a Bill like this without debate or discussion there is a big problem with it & our Government.

I thank my fellow Senators for their participation in a successful debate on my Motion in defence of free speech and peaceful freedom of association. I’m not sure if some understood how the Government’s "Misinformation and Disinformation Bill" (MAD for short) will limit the right to protest. As demonstrated during COVID, posts promoting protests were banned and organisers arrested. This Bill would allow the Government to ban posts that promote protests as a threat to public order, which is why my motion mentioned both free speech and the right to protest. In my speech, I drew attention to the bigger picture – that predatory foreign billionaires have bought Australia, and this Bill prevents us talking about it. One Nation will continue to fight for human rights and I am pleased to know we will not be alone.
