I agree, but how do we define “real world consequences”? Often times, they are hard to predict. In defense of the “should” person, they are seeing a negative norm, and deciding to act against it to set a new one. It is an act of principle, rejecting consequentialism.

CNBC was very misleading in their show this morning about Tesla “following the same approach as Waymo” “They’re also using LiDAR because they know the camera system alone doesn’t know. It doesn’t always know when it’s safe, and when it’s not.” Tesla does not use any LiDAR sensors in their Robotaxis in Austin. They use it only for validation purposes when training beforehand, which they have been doing for years.
