You know what sucks about this? This will get a bazillion amounts of hate while in reality Betty Boop was based off a black Harlem dancer named “Esther Lee Jones”. Even the Official Betty Boop page acknowledges it. Now if the film is about THAT, I’d be even more excited.

Emmy Award Winner Quinta Brunson set to play the iconic BETTY BOOP in a new film made in collaboration with the creator's grandson!!! Betty Boop is one of my favorite past characters from old Hollywood and Quinta Brunson perfectly capsulate her bubbly and sparkly personality. I already know this casting is going to be met with immense amount of racism and pushback, but you would think after 100 years of black face and whitewashing in cinema conservatives would see the hypocrisy in they’re outrage but I guess that’s asking too of white America. Betty Boop has also been recently played by Tony-nominated actress Jasmine Amy Rogers on Broadway in ‘BOOP! The Musical’, becoming the first Black woman to officially portray the Iconic character on stage. With the creators family involved I’m super excited and I hope Disney Searchlight Pictures picks it up for award season. #BettyBoop #AbbottElementary #Disney #Broadway #SearchlightPictures
