I just finished the 3rd lanterns episode, the things people are complaining about is so stupid. The race related stuff made complete sense, it highlighted how black parents can push generational trauma on to their kids. It’s also fitting John who is a black activist in the comics

Despite being a short lived series, they were able to do justice to so many members of the Labtern Corps. They made Iolande a compelling character in a single episode, while the writers of Lanterns have struggled to make John Stewart interesting in three episodes.

I think that is what these first half of the serie is about. Show us the character of Jhon and know from where his personality come from. The second half would be about him find outwhat the rings is actually looking. Not a fearless soldier but a person who can overcome it's fears
