On January 25th, The Sameer Project did a medical day in the Tuyoor Muhajera (migrant birds) Camp in Khan Younis. An extremely neglected camp with no medical point nearby, the néed was extremely high. Help: The Sameer Project medical team examined 250 patients and provided treatment for 126 cases of scabies, 56 cases of asthma and upper respiratory tract infection and 22 cases of hypertension. Total cost with 9% commission was $1,407. Medical days are crucial for Palestinians in Gaza, especially with many medical organizations expected to forcefully close down. Thousands of people with chronic illnesses depend on UNRWA for monthly refills and haven’t gotten them for months so we urge you to provide support. Support special cases: water distribution teams would see Wissam struggling to fill containers of water. Like other kids he waits in line for hours to bring drinking water back home, unlike other kids he does this by crawling through the dirt on his knees due to a deformity of his legs that he was born with. We asked Wissam’s father how we can help, and it turns out that he does not get much support. The Sameer Project team returned with everything his father asked for and some additional treats for Wissam. We supplied a large thick winter blanket, a mattress and pillow, a large food parcel with sweets and treats, and clothing for Wissam. The total including 11% commission fees was $205. The pediatric department at Nasser Hospital requested our help!! Support: There is a huge influx of patients at the hospital in Khan Younis due to displacements from the North and the number of malnourished and sick babies being born daily. In a 24 hour period, the pediatric ward had 1,000 patients visit with is 10x the usual number. Mothers, babies, children are sprawled out on the hospital floor because of the overcrowding. The Sameer Project responded by delivering 30 mattresses so that the huge number of cases have somewhere to rest and recover. Each mattress cost $75, with the total coming to $2,239 after 11% commission. We are always glad to be able to support the hospitals that are working so hard to take care of patients. We cannot go back to this - burned and maimed babies, child martyrs, families torn apart. Prior to the ceasefire agreement, in one of the last mass casualty attacks (before today) our medical point in our Sawarha Camp received baby Rosa who had severe facial and upper torso burns from a fire that broke out after an airstrike. Her grandfather, who is one of her primary caretakers was also injured. Since then, the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x The Sameer Project medical team has been following up with Rosa for daily wound cleanings and burn debridement. We provided her with medication and burn cream and we are following up with scar cream as well. Thanks to the detailed personal care, weeks later Rosa is healing well and will make a full recovery. "I send a message to the whole world to stand by me and every Palestinian hostage" Imagine losing a leg and then getting imprisoned and then losing your eyesight. That’s what happened to Mahmoud Abu Foul at the age of 28. He was abducted from Kamal Adwan hospital on December 27th and endured 8 months of brutal torture, beatings and humiliation. Mahmoud like many other returned hostages isn’t getting the proper medical care and can’t get a prosthetic leg as it is not available in Gaza. Borders need to open for doctors and field hospitals to provide adequate treatment. Till then, The Sameer Project are providing medical care through our Sawarha medical point and medical treatment camp to Mahmoud and others like him. At 12 years old, Obaida Abu Suleiman says his life is over, dreams stolen. He was hit by an airstrike when him and his father were just walking down the street, shrapnel severing his leg, leading to the amputation of his right leg and his father’s left leg. They shared a hospital bed in the North until they were forcefully displaced South with no where to go. The Sameer Project offered Obaida a place in one of our medical camps in Sawarha, Central Gaza. Here, we gave him and his family a large tent, daily food and water, daily wound changes, onsite physiotherapy, and mental health support. As you can see in the video, Obaida is making massive improvements thanks to the doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists at our camp medical point. He is bending his knee, learning to reuse muscles that were partially lost. We hope that Obaida will soon be able to get a prosthetic, get his life back. We have shared the struggles of Ibrahim who is living with pemphigus vulgaris, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes painful blisters and open sores across his skin. Every movement is a battle with pain. In Gaza, the treatment he needs is extremely limited. If Ibrahim is not hospitalized, he cannot receive the medication that keeps his condition from flaring up out of control. He wants to be in his tent, with his children, receiving care from his family. And what he really wants and what he really needs urgently is treatment abroad. One of the harshest realities of the genocide is that congenital conditions, chronic health issues, disabilities, and people stuggling with developmental disorders have all deteriorated over the past 26 months due to the collapse of the medical system in Gaza. Children that were getting therapy before ceased all improvements and took several steps back in their rehabilitation. Medications for siezues, psychiatric support, anti depressants, and other therapeutics are all largerly unavailable. We have seen patients who have manageable conditions worsen beyond belief. We met Louay and his mother over a month ago. The 18 year old boy had deteriorated without his previous therapies and support and from the trauma of the genocide. He became unable to walk and speak, and his mother struggled to confine him to their tent. We supported them at that time and are back again, saddened to see Louay having further difficulties. We supplied a large food parcel for $52, adult diapers at a cost of $41, a hygiene and cleaning kit for $46, winter blanket for $40, a total of $180 after 9% commission. But we came to find out he needs even more - we will return again and hopefully next time with a wheelchair for Louay. The Refaat Alareer Camp is a medical camp, meaning we have criteria for the families that we bring in who have vulnerable conditions, chronic illnesses or injuries, so that we utilize our services and facilities to benefit those who need help the most. The elderly in Gaza are extremely marginalized. Patients with diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, kidney dialysis, etc. have little to no access to medical care. Even transport costs to hospitals are a massive struggle. Donate : This is why the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x Sameer Project is working on setting up a medical point in Sawarha, Central Gaza. We rented an 8,000 meter squared land to set up the medical point with accommodation for the doctors and some tents for critical medical cases. The medical point will be running 24/7 providing wound change, dental care, physiotherapy, dermatology services & more. The preparation of the land is costing $70,000 so far and we need at least $30,000 for medical equipment and medication. The elderly in Gaza are extremely marginalized. Patients with diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, kidney dialysis, etc. have little to no access to medical care. Even transport costs to hospitals are a massive struggle. Donate : This is why the Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x Sameer Project is working on setting up a medical point in Sawarha, Central Gaza. We rented an 8,000 meter squared land to set up the medical point with accommodation for the doctors and some tents for critical medical cases. The medical point will be running 24/7 providing wound change, dental care, physiotherapy, dermatology services & more. The preparation of the land is costing $70,000 so far and we need at least $30,000 for medical equipment and medication.
