You might think AI is stealing art but it's not. It's learning and imagining something entirely new. Hear how it does this from the mouth of the AI mother herself, . SHILLR: Thanks for hosting Claire. I'm still thinking about this space.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz Except.. the AI generators have been processing millions of stolen images. They make nothing unique, it's all sourced from someplace.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz most of the artists I know use googled images as references for creating their own work, especially when drawing people seems similar to me (although I can agree that it feels different)

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz It is not stealing, but neither creating. Thus said, nobody should sign a full AI artwork as own. So, let's close the circle: if you sign and sell something you didn't create, that's stealing.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz I hear you about this feeling somewhere in the middle. But, you have to admit, this sounds a lot like something that could've been said about photography when it first came out.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz Oh come on, even AI company admits they're stealing and scrapping from the web, please not to us stop lying.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz Comparing a human to a product is a false equivalence. The main issue at hand is the use of unlicensed copyright artwork from artist to create a for-profit product. Which then grants you the user a commercial license. That's what most artist and creatives are echoing.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz AI developers don't imagine. They copy. <- fact

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz I got hugely startled when midjourney spat out an image that had a clearly present Getty watermark on it. Why would that have happened if it’s not pulling directly from preloaded resources?

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz I dont care that much about the stealing discussion... the problem of AI is that people consider themselfs artists just for typing some words... Its like going on helicopter to the everest summit and say you climbed it 🥲.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz But AI isn't actually creating anything with learned techniques - it's scraping huge amounts of image data, then making appropriate approximations - visual averages - using different weightings of pre-existing artworks. It's incapable of creation beyond the actual art it's fed.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz It does smash things together... ofcourse there is a process behind it, but that is all it does. And you try and try again until you are happy with the result. In the meantime you break so many copyrights...

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz Yeah "imagining something new" except it cannot imagine a single thing without real people's art as an intake.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz P.s.a. AI algorithms are incapable of thinking because they are not alive, their method for pumping out gross immitations of actual art is based purely in mathematical formulas and data scraping and cannot in any way be compared to actual artists and their processes.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz It doesn’t change the fact that unlicensed material is NEEDED in order for the AI to learn those traits. It’s not copy pasting but it’s still highly dependent on the quality of the input from artists who put decades in their craft. Why is it so hard to grasp for pb AI artists? 😂

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz Isn’t this the person who recently couldn’t get the computer to reproduce her image because the software got a patch? If the AI had even the most basic ability to “think” or “imagine” then that wouldn’t have happened. It isn’t how AI art works, nor how computers themselves work

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz Absolutely completely 100% nonsense. I have been testing to stable diffusion now for over 5 months, create my own models and what you just said is absolute 100% bullshit.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz It steals works of art by data scraping for your 20k+ prompts that the generators cannot comprehend, you have to RE-ROLL the seeds and you wind up with mud. It steals from dead people, people still alive, and makes you all look bad. Adapt Or Die.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz I mean her example is horrible because AI, to this day, still doesn't know that a hand has 5 fingers. It just generates noise clouds based on weighted feedback hoping to make an accurate hand. A human being only needs to be told/observe once that a hand has 5 fingers.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz True! But I really liked when we (humans) had an active role in generating variations and selecting suggestions. I loved the unexpected results after many many iterations. Current trend seems excessively prompt-strict, and results of variations are often disappointing.

@ClaireSilver12 @shillrxyz That can still be achieved with AI. From my understanding, it's exactly what Claire does by mixing-and-matching different platforms. The reality (for now) is that AI still needs our hands and minds and eyes to work at its best: a sort of symbiosis before the singularity.

Coinbase CEO Explains “Reverse Prompting” and the Rise of the AI CEO Brian Armstrong: “One of the big pushes we made in the last year was we got our own internal hosted AI model that was connected to all of our data sources, right?” “So it's like every Slack message, every Google doc, Salesforce data, Confluence, you know.” “So now the data is all aggregated and I've started to ask it really… it's not just like prompting it, ‘Hey, can you write this kind of memo for me,’ or something.” “I'm asking these AI agents now, ‘As CEO, what should I be aware of in the company that I might not be aware of?’ And it'll tell me, ‘Did you know that there's actually disagreement on this team about the strategy?’ And I was like, actually, I didn't know that.” “This is like reverse prompting. So instead of telling the AI agent what you want it to do, you ask it what you should be thinking more about.” @jason: “It's a mentor. It's a coach.” Brian: “Yeah. Like, what could make me a better CEO? And it's like, ‘Well, I looked at how you spent your time in the last quarter and here's how you said that you wanted to spend it, but you actually spent 32% of your time on this instead of 20%.’” “I've asked it other questions like, ‘What's the thing that I changed my mind on the most over the last year?’ Things like that.” “It'll prompt you with information you should be thinking about instead of the other way around.” Thanks to our partner for making this happen!: Our episode is sponsored by the New York Stock Exchange - a modern marketplace and exchange for building the future.
