It engaged in public relations, lobbying, and advocacy to promote ISRAELI interests in the United States. In the early 1960s, the U.S. Justice Department, under Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and President JFK, investigated the AZC for receiving funds from the government of Israel. Senator J. William Fulbright in 1962–1963 further exposed the AZC’s funding and coordination with Israeli officials, prompting JFK and the Justice Department to order the AZC to register as a foreign agent in 1962 under FARA. President JFK made multiple attempts to get AZC to register.
