In Nigeria... The labour is cheap to an extent, so getting a tradesman is easier and faster, and I think many other countries with fewer trade regulations happen to have a similar experience.

because they have to hustle 11-12 hours a day to pay the bills. that's a all day hustle. Then you got to haul the trailer 50 miles to buy the material, load them up, get someone in a line to pay for said materials, research the application for the build. That's 24 hours out of 48 hours It's a weekend project at best, but she sure looks better in a skirt than I would!

I think it might be more due to the cost of hiring a tradesman. Their construction market is highly regulated.

@MrX_info The reason it is highly regulated is that when people with no skills are involved in the work, it tends to fall apart. Tradesmen have to have insurance and be bonded in order to work and make money.

Let me tell why what she did was wrong, women think if it looks pretty its better DAF not so FAST! in southwest if you wrapping concrete block around HVAC 1 it will work harder bc it will hold in the heat when its a 100 plus outside 2 to do work on it tight squeeze makes it hard!

I don’t even care she did this but she totally should have put the middle bricks on their sides so the holes create better ventilation for A/C. The other side is still open but you need air to flow across that coil 😂😂😂

Lady needs to take a quick course in heat transfer and the concepts of forced convection and radiant heat, because she just dropped the efficiency of that condenser by Lord knows how much: virtually no fresh air flow and those black bricks will store heat from sunlight like crazy

Well, that's true....That is one aspect I cannot ascertain. However, that doesn't change the fact that a lot of Americans are into DIY

20 cinder blocks, $60. Paint, probably $20. Plants, maybe $30, so let’s say material was $150. Zero cost for labor plus she gets the satisfaction of finishing it herself.

Why pay someone to do something so simple? If she hired someone, they'd charge her $1000+ to do something that cost her less than $100 to install (with the soil and plants).

Watching this lady put a small amount of caulk/silicone to stick these blocks together hurts my soul. She may as well have saved more money on the caulk and not bothered with it for all the good that will do. I sure hope the wall behind her was properly mortared.

Never... Never block the air flow from an outside condenser. If it's a heat pump or just a basic AC unit it needs air flow.

Looks like she has met all of the clearance requirements for that specific unit which I would guess is a Lennox ML14 series. What she wont tell you is she just made her back yard way louder during unit operation bc the sound will now vibrate off of these walls

Well I dont use tradesmen because I am the tradesmen. That said one time I hired an electrician to put in can lights in my house. we were bullshitting for a couple minutes and he asked what I do and I told him im a commercial/industrial electrician and we both had a laugh about how much I hate putting in can lights.

That AC unit needs plenty of fresh air, building a wall around it and painting it black; in the summer you won't be able to put your hand on it, that poor AC unit will be tripping on HP. The service guy better bring a sledge hammer on his next visit.

Yes, a tradesman will do it faster. But if I can do it myself, I would rather gain the experience. At least then, the next time when I DO hire a tradesman, I will understand the what, why, and how of it. Why are people so intimidated by an opportunity to gain experience?

Compared to who? In Mexico most people do things on their own. Most Americans hire plumbers when their toilet won't flush. I would say they hire tradesmen more than they should.
