Now, just like Mac versus Windows, there are different versions of capitalism and socialism. Finland, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden are less capitalistic than America, but they are still capitalist. Although they have a few exceptions to the rule, private companies own the means of production, not the government in those countries. Now, you might like certain programs that socialism promises, like universal healthcare, but those programs aren't tied to a specific operating system. You can run Photoshop on Mac or Windows, just like you can have universal healthcare in socialism or capitalism. But it seems we as a people keep getting more confused about what socialism is. In 1949, 34% of Americans correctly identified socialism as government ownership of the economy. By 2018, only 17% did, and I suspect it's even worse now. American politicians are confused, too. In 2015, Denmark's prime minister had to correct Bernie Sanders and say, "Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy." Zoran Mamdani is a democratic socialist. Democratic socialism is a version of socialism. Now, you could argue that socialism just hasn't been done right yet. And when every socialist experiment at the national level in the 20th century failed, and every experiment in the 21st century is failing, maybe the problem isn't that socialism hasn't worked in practice, it, that it almost certainly can't work in principle. And maybe the assertion that this time will be different isn't optimism, it's actually just unfalsifiability, where a theory cannot ever be contradicted by actual evidence. We have bugs in this version of capitalism that need to be fixed, principally that there is too much money in politics, that billions of dollars speak louder than millions of voices. And you know what? The socialists might create healthy pressure to fix those bugs. That's good, but that's different than changing the whole operating system. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. Because when there's never been a successful socialist country in history, and the countries who have actually experimented with it are abandoning it, the results start to speak for themselves. It’s not that socialism is suddenly becoming more popular. It’s always been popular. What changed was the brief period after 1990 when people collectively recognized that, while it sounds appealing, it doesn’t actually work. Now we have a new generation saying, “Oh, socialism—sounds great!” But the truth is, just about everyone who is uninformed about history thinks it sounds great. You don’t have to be taught that socialism is bad—you have to be taught that it isn’t good. People start out believing it’s good. It feels like a moral, fair, compassionate idea. That’s why it has resurfaced in so many societies throughout history: you explain the concept, and people naturally respond, “That sounds wonderful.” Only later, through experience or education, do they come to understand its limitations—and its tendency to lead to suffering and catastrophe.

[WATCH] Comrades, from where we are seated, it seems as though the SACP has already left us. I say this because the SACP has fielded a councillor candidate in an upcoming by-election in the Peter Mokaba Region, Limpopo. They claim to be contesting for state power and argue that socialism can only be represented by them. We have never believed that the SACP defines itself outside of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR), including in its approach to socialism. Our understanding has always been that socialism will be realised through the path of the NDR. We have no idea when or where this position was redefined.

I’ll show you exactly how they’ve failed the Black community in this country. My family’s been in America since at least the 1700s. I don’t know history just through a textbook — which is propaganda — I know it through family history, which is far more important. And I know that even though there were struggles, we owned businesses, we had our own self-performing schools, we graduated scientists and architects. We had thriving communities — actually, most of the communities you look at today, like Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia, that are now plagued with crime, used to be thriving middle-class Black neighborhoods. So how did we get here? Socialism. It started with Martin Luther King Jr., toward the end of his life, saying that he wanted democratic socialism — the same things that Zorhan Mamdani is saying today: universal basic income, the government should do this, the government should do that. No! Because we are the government — that’s the thing. The government isn’t some independent entity. The government is only as good as we make it. If Apple were to collapse as a company, do you know how many millions of people would lose their jobs? We’d probably turn into a third-world country overnight if our top companies collapsed. None of them were created by socialism or communism. What communism does is say, “How can I redistribute what you have?” — meaning, how can I take it and seize it for myself. American logically breaks down why Zohran Mamdani swearing in on the Quran is actually a very big deal “So Zohran Mamdani took his oath, and he took his oath by placing his hand on the Quran. And for most liberals, they're not going to care. They're going to say, hey, this is not a big deal. Do not look at this. Do not be islamophobic, and why is this even important? But to the people who actually study religion, who have actually read the Quran, who have actually been paying attention, they know that everything inside that book, inside their Bible, does not represent the views of Americans. It's very anti-American, it's very anti-woman, it's very anti-everything that we stand for. And so now the thing is, is that Americans are going to have to watch and see just how radicalized Zohran Mamdani really is. He's already a self-proclaimed socialist, and we've known that with the studies throughout history, socialism has never worked. Pope Leo has seemed to insinuate Christians should support socialism. But his pastoral statements don't match official Church teaching on socialism. Let's review. This is what he posted last week: "Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. One of the biggest political misunderstandings in America is that people keep confusing communism, socialism, democratic socialism, and social democracy as if they’re the same thing. They’re not. MAGA calls everything to the left of them “communism.” That’s intellectually lazy and historically wrong. But here’s the Hyparadox: parts of the left don’t help either. Many people around Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Mamdani advocate policies that are much closer to Nordic-style social democracy, yet they still call themselves for some reason a democratic socialists. That creates even more confusion and gives MAGA an easy target. It reminds me of calling a real Football ⚽️ a soccer. I was born under real socialism and communism in Poland. I watched that system collapse, I hated it. That’s exactly why I support social democracy, not communism and not authoritarian socialism, or democratic socialism. Democratic Socialism is a one step before socialism which usually leads to communism. Social democracy means a democratic capitalist economy with a strong safety net, universal healthcare, workers’ rights, and equal opportunity. That’s Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland. Those countries are not communist. They’re among the freest, wealthiest, and most innovative societies on Earth. Democratic socialism is criticizing capitalism, which social democracy is actually based on. The same thing happens with Israel. I support Israel’s right to exist. I support Jewish people. I always have. At the same time, I have no problem saying: Fuck Netanyahu, his government, and anyone who supports policies I believe are immoral. Criticizing a government is not the same as hating an entire people. America desperately needs to stop arguing with labels and start arguing with reality.
