Tome deaf as all get out. I’m almost 50 with a 26+ year career and can see how much harder today than it was for me. Anyone saying it’s the same or not as hard is straight up lying or is just a moron

wait till ai and immigration wipe out all there jobs because the birthrate cant keep up and a robot or immigration is cheaper then labor im jk im sure this will age well

This isn’t about work ethic. It’s about price. A dollar from 2020 is only worth about 78 cents now. That same $400k mortgage that used to cost around $1,600 a month at 2.65% is closer to $2,570 at today’s rates. That’s not a mindset problem. That’s just what money costs now. We ran the debt up to $40 trillion and we’re paying close to a trillion a year in interest. Housing got bid up by liquidity, not wages. And somehow the people who showed up after all that happened are the ones being called ungrateful. Trying still matters. Whining as a full-time job doesn’t. But calling a real squeeze a character flaw is just an easy way to avoid looking at the incentives. The numbers changed. Pretending they didn’t is the actual problem.

Ohhh god this guy sucks.

off $25hr I can barely afford a decent 1bedroom apartment in the Midwest but I’m suppose to suck it up. Stupid doesn’t realize how spending power works. The middle class is being priced out moron

Fuck you

Whether the complaints are valid or not. Complaining gets you nowhere.

There's definitely truth to this @awealthofcs But at the same time, I have a 15 year old and a 10 year old and I have genuine anxiety about what their future is going to look like. In that respect, it's not pandering it's true fear.

The problem isn't just young people thinking they need to be extremely successful by 27. Employers and those offering opportunity oftentimes expect the same thing as it relates to pedigree and resume.

@awealthofcs
There will likely be a stock market and housing crash at some point over the next decade, so young people just need to save money and be patient.

I 75% agree. Aren’t there more and more stats to backup the fact the younger generations are having their financial/career milestones delayed and delayed? Later marriage, later homeowners, later in having kids. Etc

One thing that I think Ben gets consistently wrong is his view of young people are better today because they're more invested in the stock market. I think that's more of an effect of how ingrained 401(k)s and employee matches have become. That's illiquid money.

I don't like the victim mentality but many metrics can still be grim at the same time. The median priced house to the median income has gone up. I don't think there's an argument there. Young people do need to wake up and study the mechanisms in play.

I agree to a certain extent but you used to be able to make shit money and still afford basic necessities, now that’s not possible in a lot of areas. But yes, complaining doesn’t get you anywhere

Gen Z/A are the "entitled and greedy generations".

@awealthofcs

My friends raised on family farms who could no longer make a living at it didn't blame the Generation before them.

Might have to start watching Animal Spirits again after unsubscribing a few years ago. Michael always rubbed me the wrong way with his emotional takes but I've always thought yours were grounded in data and balanced. Put simply, he's the wife of the relationship. Yeah, I said it. 🤣
