I would more-so say that we were manipulated in our childhood. Childhood was real, but the stories and narratives presented were shadows, smoke and mirrors.

I believe they thought that doing this would save a lot of time in the animation process. But after a while, someone checked the stats and realized there was no advantage to it.

Everyone's childhood is an illusion when they are made to believe in BS like Santa, easter bunny, tooth fairy, and sky daddy rather than preparing them with needed life skills.
