Your “new math” is making kids dumber.

"Education" is making kids dumber... by design. "No child left behind" sounded good on paper until all children were held back from excelling.

My child attempted to show me the "Box" method. He got lost half way through it. I showed him the "old math" and he could not believe what he was being taught. I seriously think "Box" and Common Core is designed to put a generation behind and dependent.

There are kids coming out of high-school right now, that don't know their multiplication tables through 12 by heart. It's something GenX and the Older-Millennial crowd learned by the end of Second Grade.

I told my kids forget everything they told you and i taught them all correctly. They are both honor students.

The "new" math is confusingly stupid for everyone except those who are "teaching" it.

Defund the department of education and let them compete for the best teachers.

The modern educational system is not getting good results.

While I can definitely see the advantages of understanding the concepts, it seems so much more complicated. And I am glad I memorized the multiplication tables as a child because having that information immediately available to me makes my life a lot easier.

Here’s the thing. I do believe parents are the The Key to education back in the day making sure we got our homework done, etc. behaving at school, etc. the current education system doesn’t really allow the teachers to teach. They only ready them for test. parents are also to blame for this drop in proficiency. A large amount of children are showing up to school not knowing how to behave this causes interruptions this causes frustrations with teachers because they leave the industry because they don’t want to deal with children who do not know how to behave. Also, the integration of non-English speaking, children, distracts and slows the progress.

The math ain’t mathing.

The new math is stupid. There was nothing wrong with the old math. Or with cursive for that matter. They don't want the kids to learn.

Ask a senior in high school to do math without a calculator and then ask someone above 40 to do the same math. Who will win?

It is hands down the worst math I have a good amount of math under my belt this eureka math is fucking stupid it teaches the kids multiple ways in the same lesson on how to get to an answer which is fucking stupid it completely doesn't allow for the vertical math the normal way and it also just confuses the fuck out of kids it's all it does. The problem of the children that aren't understanding it with forcing everyone to try and understand

Grade school teacher, "Hey kids we are going to learn 10 different ways to do long division, pick the one thats easiest for you." Middle school teacher, "No we do math the normal way here, none of whatever that is." Then has to teacher all her students how to do long division.

I worked in a STEM field for 30+ years and a close friend is a HS advanced math teacher. I know math better than him. You're doing it wrong.

Disagree, the second you try to count money or make change your doing new math. Nobody counts a wad of money by counting Pennie’s changing them to dimes. Counting the dimes and converting to dollars. Then counting the ones. New math is correct thinking.

2 facts come to mind when I see this. 1. They taught a monkey to fly a rocket, IE; push buttons when prompted according to the colors flashed on a sceen,since he was strapped in and couldn’t do anything else they knew he would obey. 2. humans have 22 chromosomes from their mother, 22 the father and two gender determinating autosomes. That’s 46 total. When I was in school, I loved Math.... favorite subject... Straight A's... even corrected teachers once in a while. When I started kindergarten, I could add, subtract and multiply small numbers. sorry for bragging

there are different ways to get the right answer. The problem is with so many of these teachers, that if you use the wrong way, they mark it all wrong. Dealt with it with both kids.

Iv never beengood at math. "New math" is not only even more confusing... but it makes math so much more complicated. Maybe they just want people to be really bad with money, not understand interest and get them selves into stupid levels of debt.

I have so many kids with math. Kids hate to listen to parents and being a non parent they are willing to learn from me.
